Bah! Boring teaser that just gets way to close to the Mona Lisa.

I was reading on another forum, where this one kid was saying why he doesn’t believe in God (Or just Catholocism, I can’t remember) and he stated that part of the reason was because of what he read in “The Da Vinci Code”. Then he started listing things from the book as if he was proving something.

The problem is alot of mislead people are going to think this is true. Also I don’t like the way the teaser set it up, it stated that “No matter what you’ve read and no matter what you believe”.

This is dangerous stuff because people do believe it.

I work with youth at my parish. I am baffled by how I will “combat” this when my pastor is a big Dan Brown fan who owns all his novels and calls it “harmless fiction.”

Even if it isn’t a sin to see it, and even if you are smart enough to understand that it is all completely fictional bs made into a a cute little mysterious story, remember that you send a message with your movie ticket. I for one don’t want to send a message that I approve or enjoy a story that “paints” a picture of my beloved Church as a power-crazed, woman-hating, cover-up machine. Even if no one ever believed lies in a story that paint my Church that way, I would want to stand up against such a depiction. Not cool.

I read the book cover to cover so I could arm myself against those ignorant of the Catholic faith who believe there is truth in it. The writing is insipid and juvenile. The “mystery” was transparent. Even so, it has attracted millions of readers, seducing them with falsehood.

My sister-in-law, college graduate, Catholic education through high school, said to me, “Oh it was a WONDERFUL book! I learned so much about the Church that I didn’t know before!”

A fellow choir member, who is an educated professional editor, said, “Wow, isn’t it interesting the stuff the Church hides from us?”

These educated practicing Catholics should know better, but the book deceived even them. Anyone weaker in their faith is fodder for this tripe.

Do not tell me it is “just a book” or “just a work of fiction.”

Satan is the great deceiver, the Father of Lies. This book is deceitful and is a pack of lies designed to cause Catholics to doubt the truth of the faith. Shame on Dan Brown. Shame on Ron Howard. Shame on Tom Hanks.

The masonic links and Rosslyn chapel aye thats for sure i live not too far from there 15 min.Dont believe everything you read.Trust the Bible and Jesus as the Truth. 👍

Eh… I aint worried about it. More of the same thats been around for years. No different than Holy Blood Holy Grail. God brought me into the faith by using my interest in New Ageism. I wasnt looking for personal power or to be a mini God, I was looking for the TRUTH of it all. Until then I had no curiosity about spiritual matters at all. If someone is sincere in seeking the Truth, then God is quite capable in bringing good from bad.

I wont support the movie at the theater though. I’ll rent it. But this is gonna make $ cause its Ron Howard and Tom Hanks and based on that book.

I am however still gonna support Ron Howards Cinderella Man at the box office. 🙂

I think it is best to just ignore this D’uh Vinnie movie… **The Passion ** was ENORMOUSLY successful from all of the controversy surrounding it.

Give the D’uh Vinnie the opposite attention… no attention and it will die into obscurity and use the most powerful weapon we have “THE ROSARY” to pray that it stay in obscurity.

God bless all

dan brown wants the readers to treat it not as “just fiction”, but a challenge to religion (especially Catholicism) and history.
Then he should take the time to research what he’s writing about instead of making it all up. He HAD to write a fiction book because no major book label would publish this kind of claim as non-fiction. I don’t even have the credentials to write a non-fiction book yet and Dan Brown CERTAINLY does not. I heard that in some interviews he actually seems to believe his story. Sad. And as a writer myself, I am a little PO’d that stuff written like this makes the bestseller list.

I read the book and enjoyed it immensely. I have a strong faith, however, and I didn’t subscribe to any of the errors in the book as being true. There are a heck of a lot of people who take it all to be true however and I imagine the book has done a huge amount of damage to the faith of many individuals and I’m sure the movie will do a heck of a lot more.

Though I did watch the trailer, I have no interest in reading the book or watching the movie. I refuse to pay to expose myself to lies about the Chruch and the Lord.

Oh, no. I didn’t know they actually *were making a movie. The only thing I had heard was that they were thinking about making one. I cannot believe people actually like this book. I only read a little bit, but Dan Brown’s writing is horrific. I’m a better writer than him…and now I have much more confidence of getting published since I have seen what crp has made a bestseller list.
That’s, “a much better writer than he…”

I thought that that book was very entertaining, and a good beach read. I read it on vacation two summers ago. I wasn’t offended, because it’s not true. I’m sure the movie will be entertaining also. But it is destructive because so many people who see it, will not understand it to be fiction. It’s too bad that people take it as history and not for what it is: an entertaining but made-up story.

I agree with this completely. It is like any other book of fiction…you know when you pick up the book it is fiction…therefore take it for what it is. I liked the book and I liked Angels & Demons. They both really made me think and research my religion. I believe the Holy Spirit encourages us to learn and that can be done even through those books. Also, by reading them and researching, I was able to back a lot of my beliefs with facts (not from the books) and I felt really good about wanting to learn more. We don’t need to beat everything down all the time. And lastly, what about those that have been so verbal about The Passion? There are those that will believe and those that won’t.

I found exactly the same thing.

Personally, Dan Brown is a major reason that I’m converting to Catholicism. By seeing how the real Catholic Church compared to the Church portrayed in his books (on Catholic.com), I discovered things about the Church that destroyed my earlier (negative) perceptions.

This Friday, we had an author at a downtown Baptist church giving a lecture called “The Da Vinci Hoax” (unfortunately I didn’t attend it). If people fear the book’s influence, then it’s best to fight fire with fire, and get the real truth out.

Oh, and I have to disagree with the (many) people who say that Dan Brown is a bad writer. “The Da Vinci Code” is mostly candy, with tonnes of nonsense in the mix, but it’s a real page-turner. My father and I agree that it also happens to be his worst book (“Angels & Demons” is much better, “Deception Point” better still).

In any case, I believe that the gains will far outweigh the losses, especially considering that anyone who would accept the truth of such serious attacks on traditional Christianity (and the Catholic Church in particular) without making the slightest attempt to verify the “facts” is already pretty far gone.

The movie should be great, and will offer an incredible opportunity for dialogue (though I certainly won’t be supporting it in theatres). I have faith that the Truth will triumph.

lol. I don’t pay much attention to how I type online. That’s the way I talk, but when I sit down to write something, I pay attention to everything a lot more.
