Dearly beloved friends,
Cordial greetings and a very good day.
There is a very sad tendency among contemporary Catholics to depreciate anything that savours of tradition and to tacitly assume that if something is old then it must necessarily be suspect or worthless. The old order that made our Western nations a living force are for the most part scorned and held up to derision by the modern intelligensia and pundits of all sorts. However, what, one must ask, have they got that is truly worthy and noble to replace it? Your politicians and radicals talk vociferously of freedom of choice, however, men will not remain truly free lest they are ready to fight and future generations will be useless at fighting unless they know something of discipline - the habit of obedience; how to give orders and how to take them. Alas, today we are witnessing rank insubordination by all classes of society, especially the young who think it clever to challenge the wisdom of their elders and betters. This rebellion surely does not bode well for the future and is an unhealthy trend that must be denounced in the strongest terms and nipped in the bud forthwith before it reaps a bitter harvest.
Beloved brethren, let us who name the name of Christ and profess His most holy religion, set a worthy example, especially to our Catholic youth, and be true to honour, duty, moderation and decency. Ignore the cheap smears of the cynics, even the Catholic ones. We still need, perhaps more than ever, loyalty, the noble traditions of the past and most certainly a robust Catholic faith that values and holds dear the consistent teaching of the Church throughout the ages..
If we look around us today what do we see? Violence, confusion, vulgarity and moral decay. Yes, the world has changed and to some extent one must move with the times, but authentic Catholicism does not change and thus cannot trim its sails so as to be on good terms with the moral and cultural deterioration of our godless age. Thanks be unto God, there is a Tradition that stubbornly refuses to change and I make bold to say will never change, however some modern day Catholics may wish otherwise.
Beloved, let us “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for (our) souls” (Jeremiah 6: 16). Let us humble ourselves and enquire of the former age and ask our parents and elders concerning the true way of godliness and righteousness that has always been the way which God has owned and blessed and in which men have truly prospered. Let us not arrogantly refuse to consult the true standard of antiquity, simply because it does not chime with our own compromised standpoint or rationalistic presuppositions. Whilst we cannot be guided soley by antiquity, only a complete fool would reject long useage and the good old tried and trusted ways of the past.
