The despondent's prayer

Dear God, in your entirety, He who is who He is, be it Father, Son, Spirit, whether I understand or don’t understand.
I am in a dark place and my life has turned upside down. I am in trouble and don’t know what to do. It is my nature to despair and to stress and grow depressed. I have OCD and scrupulosity and faith causes me great suffering. But despite the darkness, there is a voice and a feeling urging me to not despair of You and to seek Your help. With this, I hope you will help me and make right what I have made wrong and correct what I have confused.
Holy God who is the I AM, please help me for the sake of Your mercy, please don’t look at my despair, my depression, my traumas but please remember that when I think I don’t need you is when I need You the most. Please show me the greatness of Your love and help me.

*LORD, you are the God who saves me;
day and night I cry out to you.
May my prayer come before you;
turn your ear to my cry.

My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

My soul is downcast within me;
bit I will remember you O God
By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

I say to God my Rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?”
My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God. *

I will pray for you, UglyGal, because in the sight of God you are beautiful. I say this because of the prayer you have written touches my own heart, for I have known times like that, and you list one of the psalms that I too have discovered is saying just about what I am feeling, at times.

God has His ways of answering, I can’t know exactly what He is going to do in your case. Maybe He wants to teach you something.

My main advice is, if there is something you have in your life that is calming, go with it. As St Paul says, whatever is peaceful, beautiful, calming, think on these things. If you think only of your troubles and shortcomings, you’ll be all tense and frowning.
 
Praying that you abandon yourself to God’s merciful love full of confidence in his merciful love. May the Lord heal you and transform your sorrow into joy. May you find a good, holy priest for spiritual direction who can help you keep spiritually strong. Amen.

In Your unfailing love,

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion - inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase in us your mercy in us, so that we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself, Amen.

Oh, I wish you could see the beautiful you that you are.

You have so much beauty, joy and happiness inside, and it gets shut down and unhappiness tends to bubble up to the top. God is love, peace and real beauty, the kind that comes from our soul. You are a beautiful child of God, and you need to stand up and take your place as one. YOU are the one person Jesus left the 99 to find, that’s how important YOU are to Him. He loves you, let Him in and feel all the love He has for YOU, His precious, precious child.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
