The details of confession

Hi, ill be going to confession. At some point in the future. I have had some screwed up sexual fantasies. (Not going into detail because i dont want to be too graphic.) I have also pleasured my myself to screwed up stuff as well. Now when i go into confession. Can i just say i have had impure sexual fantasies. And have pleasured myself. Or do i have to go into detail about what it was i thought of and had viewed? (Sorry for a post like this. I know you guys get a lot of questions like this.)

You can ask the priest how much detail he needs from you. He’ll be able to let you know. So maybe something like mentioning, “I have had impure sexual fantasies. Do I need to tell you more or is that enough?” I’m also assuming that you haven’t been to confession in a while and if that’s the case, just mention at the beginning that you aren’t sure about the nitty gritty details and need help with them.

You would then be assuming the priest has not heard everything under the sun. And, he would not grant you absolution, grace, and forgiveness. That’s what I think majority of people assume who avoid Confession.

Perhaps Self Abandonment as Mary Magdalene had. The same Mary who held Jesus feet also cried and wept on His feet, wiping His feet with her hair and tears. The same Mary who held Jesus at His feet after the Resurrection. Self abandonment is best when going into Confession.

But try this. Take a Rosary with you. And before you go in. And leading up your way into there. Just pray the Rosary. Ask Mary for assistance. She is there. She can help. Let Her escort you to her Son’s pardon and mercy.

And, just tell the priest you are having difficulty with Confession. And explain why you are afraid. Be honest with him. For you are then being honest with yourself, in doing so. Admitting you have a problem, a sin. It starts there. You can ask him to pray for you before giving your confession. Tell him you need assistance in confessing your sins. And, ask for a blessing to do so. And then Confession can begin. Be patient.
