So, I worked a job as a dishwasher at a restaurant. I had to work late on Saturdays and I couldn’t fall asleep right away. I then only got five hours of sleep and then went to Mass on Sunday, then had to work after that. It cut me off from my prayer life. Every other week I would miss Mass from oversleeping. I started slipping into sin because I didn’t have access to the Sacraments via Confession and Holy Communion. I finally blew up at work because I was angry and getting harassed. The people at work also unintentionally causing scandal at work which drove me into sin. I ended up quitting two days later. Please pray for me, and for anyone I may have hurt.

More often, it is simply the natural things in life. Your body needs sleep, you overslept. Do not give the devil credit for this.

Find a new job, Find masses that work around your work schedule. If you cannot make mass, if it is impossible or dangerous (lack of sleep is as dangerous as driving while drunk) there is not an obligation.

Prayers ascending. Since you know who they are, it is easy enough to be reconciled with them. They need not accept your apology, but it is right and just to offer it.

Now, as to that job, it may have become for you a near occasion of sin. Since God works mysteriously, He may have seen to it tat things were arranged so that you would leave it.

Your next position is one to investigate before accepting. If it prohibits your attendance at both the Saturday Vigil Mass and Sunday Masses, then best to pass it up and look for another with regular hours.

As well, you can make it clear that you must attend either of the weekend masses - so that your schedule may be adjusted.

I recommend that you start praying the Divine Mercy chaplet daily. And even if not daily, doing it at least a couple times a week or a decade each day is going to help you a lot. Don’t forget to cross yourself often and maybe bless yourself with holy water if you have it at home. These things have helped me a lot and I know they will help you too.

But above all, if I were you, I would consider my relationship with the Lord carefully. Is work on Sundays an absolute necessity? Are the things that are causing you to get too little sleep necessities? Could you possibly give up some things that cause you to get sleep deprived so that you would be able to go to Mass every Sunday?

I will pray for you.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

We have to be willing to look at our own actions before we start blaming others, including the devil.

Funny… I also quit a late night dishwashing job due to harassment. I think that type of job leads to stress.

It just seems like you are not taking responsibility for your own choices. The Devil didn’t do this, you did. If your souls needs the sacraments, go get them.

Life goes on. It is not important how you start but how you finish. Pick yourself up and start anew.

Now you know you need to stay close to the sacraments.

Most restaurant jobs have crazy weekend schedules. If you miss Sunday Mass because you must sleep, the obligation is lifted. You are not obliged to “make it up” during the week.

But it seems that going without the sacraments is really hard on you, so you might want to attend Mass 2 or 3 times during the week to “refill your tank.”

Take care of yourself, being tired can lead to these results as well. It is really hard to fall asleep in a timely way after working an evening shift in a restaurant, do what you can to see how best to wind down so you can fall asleep a little more easily.
