I treat with absolute incredulity the unprovable atheist notion that the universe is meaningless. The idea of a universe without God seems equally preposterous to me.

Now do you see how utterly nowhere your logic goes?

*So . . . where are all the friendly atheists on this thread? *

Friendly? 😃

Yes, well atheists may dislike the idea of devil even more than of God. Is it possible they have a haunting suspicion that maybe they have been duped by the devil after all?
They may very well be quaking in their boots just waiting for Judgment Day.

Maybe or maybe not you have an “imaginary” friend or enemy. Regardless, there is a REAL friend and enemy that exist whether you care to believe it or not. If you believe in Right and Wrong or the Law of Human Nature (Natural Law), you can extrapolate the origin of it as coming from the Source of Rightness (Righteousness) and Goodness. The fact that we understand certain acts to be moral or immoral, good or evil, lawful or unlawful gives us at least a hint that we are dealing with something above and beyond the ordinary facts of human behavior. We can understand what constitutes a good act (or moral act) and what, likewise, constitutes an immoral or evil act.

Some people find it easy to believe in Martians or little green men more easily than they can believe in angels and demons. They consider themselves scientifically erudite to accept the idea of a 4th dimension, a 5th, and so on. . . but can’t fathom a Supreme Being who brought all of this into existence through His goodness and mercy and an evil counterpart (unequal of course) who wants nothing so much as to destroy the image of God in man and win souls for Hell.

Satan punches us on the nose. Knocks us flat on our backs as our nose bleeds and puddles blood on the floor. As we look up from the floor for justice we see him looking at our nose as if it were the only thing in the world that matters. He cries, “Woe is me!! What a wretch I am!!”" How could I do this to YOUR nose!!! I must be the lowest of the low, worm among worms!! "“How can anyone not hate one such as me! One who could do such a wretched thing!”

As we rise from the floor we feel sorry for not having bore the punch better, for a nose that so easily bleeds. We wrap an arm around Satan and comfort him, tell him we are sorry and that it’s ok. At the same time we try to wipe the puddle of blood away with our feet so it won’t cause him any more pain . We make a note to find a way to not bleed so much in case Satan punches our nose again.

Satan spits in our faces and laughs mockingly when we choose to commit a sin, but he gnashes his teeth when we repent. Since he is a spirit, we can only speak figuratively.

I think someone pointed out back further on this thread that we have enough of a fallen nature to bring suffering and evil upon ourselves and those dearest to us, not to mention being a part of what ails society in the larger sense. Collectively, all the evil doings and thoughts of every human being open the way for greater evil. Thus, the devil’s power increases on the earth and in every individual, but only as much as God allows, for all things are under His will. :hmmm:
