The Didache Bible - Ignatius Press

Hi All -
I received a flyer from Catholic Answers and inside was the Didache Bible, marked as “New”.

I have had the Ignatius Press New Testament study Bible and I love it, with it’s references to the CCC along with notes. I have been waiting for years for the Old Testament to become available, but so far it hasn’t materialized.

Now I see this offering and wondered if anyone out there has seen this version which claims to have the Old and New Testaments with commentaries, and references to the CCC. It also claims endorsements by Scott Hahn who was part of the New Testament version that I currently have. I would like some opinions either yay or nay…

So, what say you?

I was not aware the that Didache was a “Bible”. I thought it was more like an ancient Catechesis. Like the CCC we have now.

After reading the above info on it, I’d think it would be wonderful.
I too wonder why they call it “Didache Bible”.

Maybe some of the Bible scholars here can answer that…

So have the commentaries in this Bible been published in any form before, or are they newly written for this product?
 
Ok, I think I just figured out the answer to my question.
They also have a series of textbooks for High School called the “Didache” series.
Didache is a word meaning “teaching”.
I suppose that’s the thrust here.

Right. It’s a Catholic word they can use to “brand” the new commentary in a manner consistent with their High School series. It doesn’t mean it is necessarily connected to the original “Didache” document.

I had not heard of this, but it looks pretty interesting. The info above doesn’t look like an endorsement of Scott Hahn for the commentary but an endorsement for the translation (i.e. the RSV). Maybe the OP saw something else. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hahn endorse it. I think he’d endorse anything good with regards to the Bible, even if he didn’t write it. 😛

I will take CalCatholic’s advice and look at the preview. I hope it’s all it says it will be and I may order it if the preview seems valid.
