Hey

I was wondering what the difference is between the Sacrament of Confirmation & the “Baptism in the Spirit” that is done at charismatic prayer gatherings?

In both instances the imposition or laying on of hands occurs for the purpose of bestowing the power, presence & gifts of the Holy Spirit upon the person being prayed over. What’s the difference if the outcome is the same??

One is a Sacrament as one of the “Seven Sacraments” it bestows Sacramental Grace. One receives the “Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit” It is only celebrated by a Bishop or on the authority of a Bishop. Can only be received once and leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

The other is NOT a Sacrament, is invoked by Lay prayer. Confers no Sacramental Grace. Does NOT leave a mark on the soul and does NOT have the same effect.
