To often IMO in a conventional mind set do you see ppl who think believing in God is a simplistic formulation of merely attempting to appease a forces of nature or spirit.God as a the ultimate reality/being in religions like in the Abrahamic religions has aspects not found together in other religions to often. On of them is omnipotence (one of the more easy to understand attributes) whereas a mythological one is largely limited by the range of the powers like being a fire god,sea god, thunder god etc.Another is asiety, that is to say he is holistic and not comprised of a bunch of parts that carry out a function whereas a mythological diety ussually sprouts out of something pre-existing like “primordial chaos”. Furthermore there no room for dystheism on account of God’s omnibenevolence (correct me on that last one plz if this isn’t neccesarily the case). If anyone would like to add some more stuff and/or comment this, please go ahead.Thank you for your time.

I suppose that since Jesus expired on a cross, the more irreverent atheist might refer to Him as a “diety,” but the Jesus most people believe in resurrected, so He’s “deity.” 😉 Jesus is the biggest difference between any false gods and the Real One: He came in human flesh and did real miracles. None of the make-believe/synthetic gods have those credentials.

Unfortunately, the person who’s stubbornly against God will view any belief in Him as mythological, so no matter how many arguments you use on that person, he’ll dismiss them. Faith comes not by apologetics but by some mysterious internal transformation that only God can accomplish.

With mythological dieties, there are no eye witness accounts of their ever having a real interaction between the diety and humans, Other than the stories told, no one really encountered them in real life. For example, has any other so called diety in any of the other religions, performed some miraculous event or sent some emissary to proclaim themselves as real.

There are no Buddhist or Shinto miracle workers. Although Buddha may have been a real human being, there are no miraclous events associated with his life or with his followers or representatives. Buddha himself never proclaimed that he was some sort of diety.

Jesus proclaimed Himself to be divine AND he proved it by controlling nature itself, and showing that He had dominion over life and death.

With God, there is written history of His Son’s life and the miracles that He performed.

AND there is a written history and eyewitnesses from many individuals who were followers of Christ who encountered God or His representatives (angels, saints or Christ Himself) and performed supernatural deeds…

God, monotheism, is a much more sophisticated idea of deity. it’s much more logically based and believable. it just makes a lot more sense. also, it’s moral codes ring true.

and thus has eclipsed the myths

I agree with the last couple posts, I would only add that Catholicism clearly states the Covenant with God to Israel has never been broken. In fact its basic CCC.

Budda also never claimed to be God, he claimed he found a path. The mythology for example of Egypt or ancient Greece also proved to be nothing more than self manifested evil allowed by God.

PLUS the representatives of God and Judeo-Christianity have had great miracle workers throughout its history, Moses, Elijah, Daniel, Jesus, the Aposltes, St. Anthony, St Francis, St Catherine, Blessed Martin DePorres, St Padre Pio and many others. There is nary a century in which some great miracle worker has not been present and ALL have proclaimed that God is real.

No other religion can even suggest such a record.

BTW my favorite miracle/supernatural event of all time has to be when Elijah challenged the Baalist priests to a duel to see whose God was real. Each built an altar and prepared an offerering… The Baalists danced around, working up a real sweat, and basically nothing happend. Elijah poured water all over his offering, prayed, and lightening came out of the sky stuck the altar and then blasted the Baalist priests.

It just had to be a spectacular scene. Someone ought to put it into a movie or something.

wait…what ?.What do you mean by nothing more than self manifested evil?.Are you referring to the particulary to the magic, ritual sacrifices or lack of anything on social justice in those old belief systems when the mythologies were actually practised?.
