that’s right, he’s the presider. I forgot. He is an alter Christus; who said he wasn’t? Not Vatican II…
Because he is in persona Christi capitis, it stands to reason logically that the faithful are gathered together in persona Christi (mystici) corporis – that is, the faithful are gathered together as the Church herself, which is why the Creed is “I believe” – and as the head presides over the body, so the priest presides over the assembled faithful at Mass (assuming there are faithful at Mass).
actually, it’s the sort of comment that needs to be said, because this “dressing up” is exactly what’s happening. And it fools noone. This is not the sort of comment that is fruitful in this discussion. I wonder, maurin, if you remember the civil conversations you and I have had in the past on this forum. Please return the kindness and continue in charity here.
I don’t intend to be non-civil, japhy, so I will apologize. But it seems that there is a lot of “expelling of saliva into the air” and assurances that we needn’t worry, “it’s only rain” on this forum. It isn’t charitable to call spit rain when it lands on the heads of the unwary.
I understand, japhy, that you have devoted a lot of time and energy professionally, according to your signature, in reigning in the excesses of the “spirit” of Vatican II, and in the Liturgy. But it is the New Liturgy itself which opens the door to these same excesses–they are the ‘logical’ ends to the butchering of the Roman Missal, it’s Canon and Rubrics.
It is, at the end of the day, the reason and cause of its own excesses.
