Anyone familiar with the Early Church Fathers on LOGOS software…the Catholic edition? I’m looking to buy the complete collection of the Church Fathers on CD rom since I’m having a difficult time finding it in downloadable form anywhere. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is this software worth the hefty price?

The early church fathers can be purchased on a disc from CCEL
ccel.org/fathers2/
present price only $40 for version 2. It does have other material writings on it, mostly protestant but there is some good Catholic writings on the disc.
Its called Christian Classics Ethereal Library version 4

But if you are willing to wait another 4-6 months CCEL is going to come out with version 3 of the church fathers which will provide a Scriptural link that is quotations of church fathers on a given Scripture Verse will be linked to the church fathers writings, most of it is complete on the web site and is greatly superior to anything on the market right now.

Harmony a Catholic publisher has the church fathers in software pack for about $60, but doesn’t even have the the footnotes linked. harmonymedia.com/CDROM/Fathers/ecf.htm I would not spend the kind of mony Logos and others might want considering the above ino.

I strongly recommend you NOT to study the writings of the Church Fathers from the ccel.org website. The last thing you should do is study ancient Catholics from a Protestant (Calvinist even worse) source.

I’ve come across many curricula of Protestant sources that have distorted early Christian writings for their own flavoring.

Thanks for the advice Integritus, I know how to study the Church Fathers though, and I think CCEL is a pretty good source. I really appreciate the advice though. I am not looking for a website though, more of a software type thing with the Church Fathers.

I strongly recommend you NOT to study the writings of the Church Fathers from the ccel.org website. The last thing you should do is study ancient Catholics from a Protestant (Calvinist even worse) source.

From what I understand, the CCEL and New Advent use the same translation for the Fathers: Ante-Nicene and Nicence/Post-Nicene Fathers. If that’s the case then you could use the CCEL and, if you’re not versed in the Fathers, simply ignore the notes. The CCEL is convenient because it navigates as the hard copy books would.

Can download a set of church fathers in zip, 60 megs, when unzipped in is in a compile HTML format. its free

Download The Complete Early Church Fathers Collection in Microsoft HTML Help Format with a master volume that has advanced text search (found words are highlighted), index and favourites, which act over all 37 volumes. Converted to HTML Help format by Graham Ranson, UK (Zipped in one archive - 58.3MB).

I was looking at QuickVerse which is also put out by LOGOS software and recommended by Stephen Ray. It seemed very interesting from their video on the website.

I sent them an e-mail asking how much of the information was specifically Catholic. I haven’t heard from them yet.

If any one knows if this software would be of any use to Catholics, I’d love to hear what you have to say.

For just the ante-nicene volumes (so far), I recommend E-Sword.

If you really want to buy a disc, Ignatius.com has it for $60 and you get a free book with any order over $50. This is vastly cheaper than the Logos software version.
