The earth is only 6000 years old.

I’ll tell you exactly where I’m getting that stuff. It’s from the current fight against creationism movement.
The estimated age of the earth has changed several times over the years. It’s never been set in stone or unchangeable. Nothing in science is like that.

Trivia Question -

Who was the scientist who estimated the age of the earth to be between 40 million and 400 million years old?
No other opinion can possibly be held by anyone from this day forward.
I don’t know where you’re getting that. Disagreement does not equate to censorship and thought police.

And, what about your belief that Jesus rose from the dead? Is there any other belief that can be right? Any wiggle-room there?

This old gem - if it weren’t for evolution science would not advance. What a crock.
IF anyone said that, you’d be right. But no one has, certainly not I.
The pursuit of knowledge (science) goes on regardless of the idea of evolution. In fact most discoveries are advanced through trial and error
. Of course. My point was that to call studying the world and studying the mind–even marvelling at their wonders–is “idolatry” is to promote a Dark Ages’ form of repression of natural human curiosity. And, I suspect, a certain level of hypocrisy, since I bet that he/she enjoys many of the benefits of the “idolatry” of science.
Are you making a case here that if it wasn’t for evolutionary theory we would be stuck in the mud?
Heck no. I stated EXACTLY what I meant. And stated it again now.

OK - just wanted to be clear.

Dark Ages - they repressed natural human curiosity? How so? Sources?

Do you visit a doctor? Been to the hospital? Read about distant galaxies? Take antibiotics or other pharmaceuticals? Do you believe in a balanced diet, and the need of the brain for oxygen? Do you know how long a light wave takes to travel from the sun before it warms your skin? Would you like to know why it warms your skin? Do you have any interest in the mysteries and wonders buried in the earth or still living at the bottom of our oceans?

That you call the curiosity about our world and our universe and our own species or mind a form of blasphemous “idolatry” dismays me and strengthens my cause as a teacher to keep spreading my wonder at the mysteries of the material world around us. Thank you for re-confirming my purpose! Young minds are terrible things to waste.
Why do you change the subject and attempt to insult me? I study the history of technology. I am a published author and working editor at a media company. I study scientific developments to the point that people avoid me because they think I’m going to give them a lengthy talk about the latest discoveries.

Young minds should not be manipulated by a system that instills a philosophical bias into the curriculum.

I worked in a large hospital for almost 10 years. I read scientific magazines and check on new developments almost daily.

Your attempt at diversion and sleight of hand confirms my purpose of doubting some scientific theories as buried deeply under a heavy accretion of materialism to the point where a materialist dogma hides and prevents a valuable discussion about the truth. It would be nice to talk about science here, instead, what I usually see are attempts to get people to “just say yes” to an ideology.

God bless,
Ed

Ed,

It is amazing people can be so duped and not even suspect it.

Everyone should demand - just the facts Jack, just the truth.

To larkin31, I invite you and everyone else to read the following article by a scientist who is a member of the NAS:

uncommondescent.com/intelligent-design/philip-skell-revisited/

Do you know how modern drug discovery is done? It’s a massive trial and error process. The same trial and error process is going on right now with DNA knock out experiments. Basically, they knock out a little sequence and see what happens: Something (write that down), Nothing (write that down), Death of the organism (write that down).

Instead of a sense of wonder, most of what I see here is a political campaign to get me to vote the “right” way so that an agenda can move forward, as opposed to real knowledge.

God bless,
Ed

There aren’t many topics which have not been discussed repeatedly and for years. The age of the earth topic comes up with less frequency than the trinity, faith vs works, abortion, gay marriage, hell, and a slew of other topics. You might be overly sensitive to this particular topic, and maybe that’s why it seems like its brought up “so often”.
Mr Skeptic, do you have any insider knowledge as to why the discussion of evolution has officially been banned, and why evolution threads keep being shut off? There are other topics you mention that are probably conducive to an even greater flow of vitriol. I keep getting dire warnings that if I don’t contribute to Catholic Answers the forums will be shut down. But I have no intention of contributing to a group that suppresses or threatens to suppress the discussion of solid science.

Hmmm - You are a poster child for “Expelled” The movie.

If you don’t agree with me and friends and 100,000 working biologists, etc. etc. etc.

These threads get shutoff because of your annoying habit of ducking the science when confronted and inflaming other posters with your sarcasm and contempt.

Nothing about airplane construction in the biolgy textbook. God bless, Ed
Naturally. I would expect biology from a biology textbook, not airplane contruction, theology, or some other subject.

LOL – you and Ed are the ones who duck the science, and engage in sarcasm and contempt.

Hello… I have been the poster that has referenced more peer reviewed journal entries than anyone else. I constantly link citations. Your comment is laughable.

I cannot really remember where you actually cite an actual science paper. Rather it is my friends that I know, working biologists, Ken Miller… etc…

Your rebuttal typically goes as I previously posted. For the life of me I cannot understand why the mods let you get away with it.

Your theological postings have been heterodox too.

Citations to Discovery Institute propaganda, not to scientific literature.

Then you have failed to even look at the reference material I link. As I suspected you ignore it, do not read it and follow the conclusion. If you had you would not make this silly comment.

I’ve read your links. 😃
