I just bought my first Latin/English Missal in 40 years, and it is the best thing any Catholic can do. 
It is the $25 pocket missal with commentary by Fr.Stedman and it contains a weekly catechism lesson keyed to each Mass so that by the end of one year you will have covered all of the necessary doctrines for the laity to understand and accept, and they are presented in the full context of that week’s special feast or other significance in Church history, along with all of the best Scriptures to support the Faith.
If you have this and a copy of the Douay-Rheims Bible, you do not have to worry about reaching the level of a PHD theological scholar with a hundred volumes of the Doctors of the Church in order to understand your Faith.
In the back of the Missal there are prayer meditation pages to lead you through a good Confession, the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, and all of the Sacraments.
