I think the East is doing something right…
I mean we have all these controversies in the West with these “new groups” that act as cults.
I mean people have accused Legionaries, Opus Dei, Neocatecumenate, Communion and Liberation, Focolare, of being cults. One only needs to do a google search to find testimonies of members of these groups.
I haven’t heard of any Eastern Catholic monasteries with ex-members complaining of such abuses…
Maybe it’s because the East just sticks to the old ways (that are proven to work) rather than experiment with “new forms” of consecrated life.
Even with the exposure of the intricate cover-up of sex abuse that we had in the early 2000’s in the media, it mostly involved (or maybe entirely involved the Western Church.)
