Today was one of the first years I didn’t make a new Easter dress. I had only to hem the skirt and sleeves, but I was so busy preparing for the Easter Vigil that I never got around to it. And thanks to the ladies on the Everyday Minerals thread

, I spent my spare money on makeup rather than a new hat and a pair of gloves.
But generally I always make a new dress for Easter. I also do a Christmas dress every year.
Why?
Well, in part because it is an excuse to add a new lovely item to my wardrobe. And because it’s only really during the Christmas and Easter breaks that I have time to actually sit down and sew, excepting summer, of course… thought summer can get very busy, as well!
But, in another part, it has a lot to do with Easter and Christmas themselves. The new dresses are my equivalent of the Christmas presents and Easter candy. They’re an outward, visible reminder of the fact that it’s a very special day, a day of rejoicing.
As far as the OP is concerned, though, I can’t understand why those women never wear the dresses again! My Easter dress last year was a beautiful 40’s style dress… white, and trimmed with a rosebud fabric. I can’t imagine just setting it aside… in fact, I’m always looking for another excuse to wear it!
