Rob2, if I may ask you (and forgive me if this makes you somber), could you see many of the fallen away come across as they reach the autumns and winters of their lives? After living and learning, they come home for both peace and hope? I understand you’re in Europe, could you possibly see a mass conversion (reversions?) as the people begin to see their hairs gray?

My feeling is yes, it may start to happen for some in the autumn of their lives since it takes a long time for some to exhaust the two dimensional possibilites of the world and their ego centric resources and become motivated to seek a deeper meaning to life. I hope so

No , @RCIAGraduate , I see no sign of a mass conversion .
Some drift back as they get older , but I can’t see it happening on a big scale .
I go along with what Pope Benedict said when he was 42 . The Church will become small .

It’s been the pattern through my life , and I take what comes with hope , because the victory is Jesus’ on a cosmic scale , but we just see bubbles on the surface .
The abuse scandal came out of the blue , and we haven’t seen the worst of it yet .
But my faith isn’t in institutions , but in the One who is already victorious .
