I just had something occur to me. When I attended the Ordinary Form for a time, I just figured the elevation of the body and blood are to portray them to the congregation. Especially when the priest is facing the congregation, it comes off as, “See? Here it is.” Yet, I now attend an Ordinariate Parish where the priest faces Ad Orientem, and I question popped into my head: is the elevation the offering of the sacraments to Christ? Or is it to show the people? Or both? I’m asking for the intentional meaning behind it, not the practical result of it.
