As far as I can tell, the most recent version is the fourth edition, which the Vatican website has in Latin (only).

Online I’ve seen the third edition of the Handbook for sale.

Is the fourth edition available in English at all? If not, why not? Is anyone planning on making the fourth edition of the Handbook available in English?

Is the third edition sufficient for use, if the fourth edition isn’t available? Etc.

Yes. The authorized English translation of the Enchirdion Indulgentiarum, editio quarta has been prepared by the US bishops and confirmed by the Apostolic Penitentiary in Rome.

It is now titled “Manual of Indulgences” and is published by USCCB publications. It can be purchased online at $19.95 a copy.

It’s a really good translation, and the norms of Liturgiam Authenticam went into play in this translation. None of the funny ICEL renderings that peppered the Catholic Book’s “Handbook of Indulgences”. (In fact, I don’t think any of the prayers were drawn from ICEL’s translations). Traditional prayers with “thees” and “thous” remained with their “thees” and “thous”.

Bishops Trautman must have been livid that such a manual got produced from the US bishops, and it came from the Liturgy Committee too!
