The End of False Religion is Near!

I was given this newletter this morning by JW’s. After I closed the door I quickle glanced at the newsletter. The Church in Politics, Priest sex scandal, False Doctrines, the future end of a false religion.

After I closed the door, it once again fell on me on how much people dislike the Church because they misunderstand it; or just dislike it! If the Church is His body, then I was again reminded how much people misunderstood and hated Jesus.

What does the Church do in these instances. Well, it just turns the other Cheek because I never seen Catholics go door to door giving bash-pamplets of anykind to anyone or specific religion. Why is that?

Hey I wonder if you live near me. I had JW come to my house the other day. I ran to my son and told him not to answer the door. Ironically I was on the forum at the time with my bible in my hand. LOL. I should have gone to the door holding my bible.
When my husband came home he handed me the Watchtower. I was looking it over and it really is dangerous to people who do not know their faith or dont have any. The suff they had in their was deceiving. it had biblical verses they were just taken out of context.

I half agree with you. The Truth does stand on its own, but we do need to shout it to people. Jesus commanded us to be disciples of His word and to preach it all over the world.

Well, maybe not SHOUT IT. LOL. I evangelize in small ways maybe a word here or there or just simply living out the word of God. You know live by example.

Anyway you do it, you have to evangelize, after all it is what we were commanded to do.

I found one copy left at my door a few days ago while nobody was home. It was pretty clear they were talking about the Catholic Church though they tried to point out the had no particular church in mind .

Now that I think about it this article was designed to target the people who dont really think about religion but once they read this 2 pager they might be inclined to call up the nearest “free home bible study”.

Im an evangelical christian and they knocked on my door. I think they target anyone who is not a JW . I dont think they pick on catholics.

The first year of living hear I got weekly invites to all churches of the local neighborhood; you name in it, Baptists, AOG, Mormon, JW, then there was this Arcade from one day to the next it became a Church of Christ, … JW’s make a weekly stop at the door however, but I never challenged them into religious dialolgue, atleast not yet… I am still an (AIT) Apologist in Training. A friend of mine just told me today that when the JW come to the door, they ask" Dont you guys believe that only 144,000 people go to heaven?" the JW replies,“yes.” The friend said,“Then why would you want me to take your place?” They have no idea how to respond to that.

A young black woman helped a very old woman with a cane up my driveway to my front door to give me that very pahmphlet the other day also. I have a nice statue of the Blessed Virgin in my front yard so I guess that is how they decided on who to target.

In Christ!Yeah some lady knocked on my door and gave me one too, as part of their “world wide campaign”. I knew what it was at a glance and sat it here by my comp and then when I went to get some tea…I dropped it in the garbage as I passed, which is where it belongs.

Catholics don’t do “bash-pamplets”, (a good term for them) but lots of others do. Why should we? The truth of the faith speaks for itself, and the Holy Spirit is the one responsible for convicting hearts of the truth and guiding people to Our Lord.

We don’t need to “bash” anyone, and I thank God that our own clergy don’t do that from the pulpits because the purpose of church is worship and to build us up in faith, not do a compare and contrast with the guys down the street, no matter what they think of us. In fact, the only time I have heard of where this was made necessary, the pastor had to get permission from his bishop and even then he used his sermons to cover catechesis of things that the local campaign (by some church that held services in an old theatre) were attacking. He didn’t bash…he simply taught Catholics what we believe and why and guess what? They didn’t lose a soul and the campaign fell apart and that other church is just a tiny thing. (last I heard).

We don’t have to bash…it’s wrong anyway.
I do have a tract that I posted here on CAF a while back that I can print out and give to people like the JWs who come to my door. (I was half asleep the other day so I forgot… ) Have a look. and feel free to copy it to Word and use it as you see fit.

It’s just like in apologetics here or anywhere else. God help us never to descend to the level of mean spiritedness that I’ve caught from n-Cs and a-Cs. It’s tempting to respond in kind, but that’s just listening to my human nature, and we are called to be more and better than that. (Yeah…I know…I’m Irish…and still I hear Our Lord sayin’ “Turn the other cheek”. :irish1: ) So I study to know our most holy faith the best I can and respond with facts and not rhetoric (which is mostly what we get popped with…) and to listen for when the questioner is really sincere. Some of them have converted and I attribute that to the Holy Spirit.

It’s good to be passionate about our faith. (That’s what my beloved wife says I am.) We just have to be be like Our Lord.

I have the Icon of Our Lady of the Sign highly visible to all those who enter our front door. My line is to ask the JW’s or Mormons to come in and render reverence to Our Lady before we sit down and talk otherwise we part ways. So far, I have not had one taker. Hmmm, I guess the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways.

I had a JW come to the door a few weeks ago. She shared and passage from 1 Tim. After sharing the passage, she asked me to take their 2 books (literature) “Awake” and “Watchtower”.

I told her that I would take them as long as she would take this and handed her a copy of “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth”.

Well, on Friday when I went out to get my son off the bus, I found the same literature that the OP is talking about under my doormat… They never knocked on Friday. I wonder why?? Any ideas… Of course if they would of knocked, I would of let them in and would of given more Catholic literature.

Maybe “Pillar of Fire; Pillar of Truth” if it was a different person, or one of the “Catholic Updates” that I have laying around the house if it was the same person as last time.

My thinking is: I let you in, I’ll ask if you want something to drink. However it is my home. I didn’t ask you to come and give me your literature. So if you want me to take your literature, then you have to take mine. Why do I?? Well I think of the passage of the lost sheep…. How do I know that they are not just are lost??? I also think of the passage Mathew 25…. “When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothed you? When did you see you ill or in prison, and visit you? And the king will say to them in reply ‘Amen, I say to you whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me”

Well in my opinion they are a stranger…. so I welcome them.
In my opinion they may be thirsty…. So I offer them something to drink. In my opinion they are in a ‘spiritual’ prison and need help, they need to be comfort and know the truth just like you and I. In my opinion they need someone to visit with them with the hope to plant some seeds.

As an ex JW myself, I remember how we all used to practically salivate when we talked about “Jehovah” coming to destroy Christendom (all Christian religions except the JWs).

In my part of the world, JW’s have a lot to compete with. I was listening to a local radio programmme one day, (I live in Northern Ireland) and there were complaints about people shouting through loud hailers during the summer, in Belfast City centre and in public parks were people were sitting trying to have their lunch in peace. One guy said he owned a shop and people were put off coming in because of ‘christians’ who gather outside his door to shout through loud hailers at people. I think I can honestly say that there is not one person in my heart of the world who has not heard of Jesus Christ. They may not have chosen to respond to the gospel, but I really don’t believe that shouting at them through a loud hailer, plaguing the life out of them by constantly knocking their door and distributing literature that highlights the failings of others while refusing to acknowledge that major problems (because the JW’s only have little problems that the ransom makes up for) exist in their little corner of the world. I think a little more living Christianity and in the case of JW’s a lot less blowing our own trumpet about how great they are and so much better than everyone else would go a long way. In this part of the world, the government are being pressurised into passing an incitement to hatred act which could lead to certain public speaking and distributing certain material illegal because people are sick of these tactics. I could think of better ways to draw people to God.

I had a couple come to my door last week. I took as much literature as they would give me (to keep it out of the hands of others) and told them I was a devout Catholic. The lady came back later and said,“I know you said you’re Catholic, but I though you might want to give this to your little boy to enjoy.”
From all outward appearences it was a book of bible stories for children, the kind you see in the doctors’ offices. However, when I read through it, it was filled with such nonsense as it would hurt God if you celebrated your birthday and cited Herod as a reference and pushed the whole tourture steak thing. However, it gave off some pretty colors in the wood stove.

Found the brochure on my door, here in a little old Nevada town. I mailed it back to them and put a note inside with a picture of our Blessed Lady and said the Catholic Church is praying for you.

So very few of them consider themselves to be among the 144,000 that while that response might catch them off guard, it’s more likely that they would think that your friend would be presuming to take the place of a fellow JW and not themselves. (If memory serves, it’s only those JW’s who were alive “when the Lord came invisibly” in (1918?) who can be considered part of the 144,000.)
