. . . our government can force us out of this endeavor.

Why not? Driving out noisome Catholics would (a) create a new class of voters (supportive and beholden to one political party, and (b) weaken the Catholic faith presence (this is considered a GOOD thing by some flakes).

It seems increasingly apparent that the government does intend to force religious institutions out of social justice ministries if they will not bow to the secularist religion of abortion, contraception, sterilization, and gay marriage.

If anything, we need more social justice from Catholics in the world today.

Yes. The Catholic Church has been the greatest social welfare agency nationwide and worldwide. And yet, at least in the U.S., this administration keeps making systematic attempts to force it out of business.

How did that little quote go? Ah yes.
“We will not comply”

No, we will just go back to the corporal and spiritual acts of mercy and do it without government support.

If it means that “Catholic Social Justice” stops meaning state socialism and returns to individual Catholics joining together to minister in the name of Jesus, I don’t see a problem.

For the sake of argument:

100 years ago the vast majority of social justice ministry was carried out by religious organizations. Very little federal government money was involved.

50 years ago “The Great Society” became a national goal and just about the same time “Drugs, Sex, and Rock n Roll” and “The PILL” came into being.

Today, nearly everyone gets some support of government entitlement. There is welfare and then there is also corporate welfare. We have gotten used to living on “OPM” - Other People’s Money. Nobody wants to give THAT up. Many want more. The Feds ask very little in return for the handouts except - you like it? Reelect me.

As we cede more power to the federal government and vote for those who want to relax traditional moral standards of personal behavior, why would the Feds NOT take more power, more control? It is obviously what the majority wants.

To take more power and control, the Feds have to reduce religious social justice ministry.

Ah, but, WE THE PEOPLE vote in or out the Federal Government. In 2008 the electorate consisted of 54% Protestant and 27% Catholic - 81% of the voters were Christian. The Ps and the Cs voted in the current Adminstration that is working to reduce religious social justice ministry.

If we want to bring about the End of Social Justice Ministry, then surely we should vote for those who will do that for us. We should vote for those who will work to further remove moral standards. We should vote for those who will find more ways to use OPM (rhymes with opium, an addiction) either by higher taxes or by increased borrowing. Who really cares that the Feds are nearly $16 thousand billion in debt. Why not see if we can bankrupt our economy?

July 4 - Happy Independence Day may so become Happy Dependence Day.
