Is the Entire Bible seen by all Christians as the “WORD of God?”

If so: what then are its obligations?

If Not; why not?

Is there evidence for either or both positions?

Certainly one “may use” what ever they choose; BUT CAN one do this?

First, there is variance among Christians as to what constitutes the “entire” Bible. The canon of what books are believed to be inspired is different for Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants. In order to answer your question, there’d have to be an agreement on what constitutes the canon.

Second, what do you mean “what are its obligations?” Do you mean what are we commanded to do in Scripture? What are we obligated to do in terms of how it’s read? When it’s read? How we store the Bible? Your question is unclear.

It would help if you’d clarify what you mean by these things, and then there could be a more fruitful discussion.

Depends, when God speaks or a prophet or apostle or someone clearly in athority speaks I tend to think this is God directly or God’s inspiration through that individual. Are the words of evil men recorded in the bible the word of God? Maybe not.

First…all Christians need to agree of interpretive authority before your questions are answered.

What he said, is what I am thinking too. It is a :(shame that we who name the Name of Christ cannot seem to decide which form of the canon we will read.
I prefer to use the longer canon of the Catholic Bible. But I wonder about the parts of the Scripture that is accepted fully only by EOs.🤷

Thanks,

Let’s go with the original 73 book Catholic Bible.

As to its obligations:

Can they be contradictory?

I’m hoping for some non-catholic participation here:)

God Bless,

Please clarify what you mean by obligations. Thanks.

The Bible is not the “Word of God” The Bible points to the Word of God. Thru it’s pages the Word of God can be “heard”. The Word of God is not found on paper but in the human heart. While reading passages from scripture the Word of God can be “heard”, but the words on the pages are not the Word of God.

I have not thought of it that way, but it is an interesting way of seeing it. It makes sense too. The words on the pages of the Bible can be just like any stories and tales that are not any different found from any other books if they are read without any intention of knowing the purpose of the message therein.

But then again there is more to that. In this sense I do not agree with you. The Bible is the word of God, no matter whether we believe in it or not. They are words that come from heaven that are like the snow and the rain and will not return without achieving what they have set to do.

Reading the word is like planting a seed. It may lie dormant and would not sprout a leaf and it may die off because of the hot scorching sun but there is always a possibility that when moisture comes about, the seed may grow. The word of God is like that because it is grace.

They are human words seeking to put onto paper the writers experience with God. In the prophets we read “The word of the Lord came to me saying…”…do you really believe that the prophets heard the words vocally spoken to them and they recorded God’s very words?..or an impression which the prophet wrote down concerning his understanding of the “word of the Lord”?

Joel speak about the “Last days the word of the Lord will be written in each heart”…Pentacost was “that day” when God’s Spirit fell upon those who then "spoke again the “word of the Lord”…the Bible is a book of words…anyone can read it…any one can recite words from a page…but the Word of the Lord is only “heard” in the heart of man…not on pages of very human words…just because it is bound in leather…or trimmed in gold…or has an ornate cover…or is place on an alter makes it the Word of God…God’s Word cannot be written on paper…but only upon the “fleshy tablets” of the “heart”.

Ther is nothing "holy’ about the book we call the Bible…the “holy” is found when the “Word of the Lord” is “written” in the human heart.

That will be our difference then.

The Bible is holy because it is the word of God. It is not God’s word verbatim but nevertheless the words are from God because He inspired the authors to write them down. Humans can trample on the words or they can treasure them, but the words are holy because God is, not man.

God is holy…not a book bound in black leather with “holy” on it cover…or spine>

Agree to disagree, eh?
Of course…that is what makes us gloriously human and made in God’s image…each of us bears the Light Within…and each of us “interprests” the Truth in our lives…each of us bears 'the image of God".

The Mystery of God is…welll…Mystery.🙂

Your philosophy seems saturated with relativism. If my truth is that abortion is intrinsically evil, and your truth is that it is morally benign, should we agree to leave God’s view out of it?

“God’s view’”…which of our views is “God’s view” in your estimation? The one you hold? I find it facinating “we” always hold “God’s view” as our own while our brother does not.🙂

“Moral relativism”…who decides what is “moraly relative” and “morally absolute”…you? Me? Your church? Such terms of “moral relativism” is just another claim that “we” posses “moral absolutes” while those that disagree with us are “morally relativisitic”. 🙂

The Word of God is Jesus Christ! You can actually have an encounter with the Word of God in your daily life without necessarily reading scripture.i.e. In prayers…feeding the hungry…visiting the prisoners…etc. However through the Holy Scripture…as you rightly said…we can “listen” to the Word of God and be guided by it.Through Scripture…the Word of God strengthens our faith and gives us the Hope of seeing Our Lord at the end.
