The Epiphany and blessing of the Chalk

Look, if you ask God sincerely to please bless your house, he is going to honor the request and bless it for you, even if you don’t happen to have some blessed chalk to mark the door, or some Epiphany water, or whatever. These blessings are not magic charms where you have to have all the right “ingredients” for the blessing to take effect. Moreover, the blessing itself is a sacramental, in other words a sacred sign that signifies something spiritual is going on and prepares us to receive grace. (CCC 1667-1679)

If you have blessed chalk and Epiphany water to use, then those are additional sacramentals, and they also fit in with the tradition of the past practice, so we like to use them. But it’s not like God is going to refuse to bless our home because we couldn’t get any blessed chalk or Epiphany water. A blessing isn’t a sacrament, and can’t be invalid.

@Tis_Bearself I agree in large. As I catechize and convertize deeper in relation to Christ in Catholic faith, sacred tradition, eucharistic adoration, sacraments, scripture, and magisterium… I offer for, fodder, the early american tale of a man named Bunker Bean?

Its a fairy tale, but it has an rather awfully important metaphor for the power of faith. In that Bunker Bean was a poor broke wanna be in new york city. He wanted success, fame, recognition, etc… *(I know that’s wordly, not Christly, per se. ) - anywhoo, he goes to a fortune teller, who lies to him, takes his money. Well, Bunker believed the lie. He lived out his life as a success, humanitarian, and virtuous person… becuase he believed the lie of the corrupt pshyic.

It’s not to say deception can have good come. No. I’m not saying that… but it is interesting…
