Are you sure that Jesus will accept you into His Kingdom when your time is at hand? This is exactly what Satan wants you to believe; while he keeps you busy with socializing, entertaining yourself with electronics, and spending time in a variety of different ways. Unless you are engaged in God’s will, all this time is wasted in His eyes.

Today, begin to put your fruitless activities aside and replace them with those which will bear fruit and ensure your salvation. You can begin by collecting prayers that you like and make a commitment to God and yourself to pray them every day. May I suggest they include:

Prayer to praise and thank God.
Prayer to know and do God’s will.
Prayer for the salvation of your family and your sisters and brothers.
Prayer for Holy Humility and Holy Wisdom.

Revelation 3:16
“So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth”.

That is a message I no doubt need to hear.

On the other hand,

"A hunter in the desert saw Anthony enjoying himself with the brothers, and he was shocked. Wanting to show him that it was sometimes necessary to meet the needs of the brothers, the old man said to him, ‘Put an arrow in your bow and shoot it.’ So he did. The old man then said, ‘Shoot another,’ and the hunter said, ‘If I bend my bow so much, I will break it.’ Then the old man said to him, ‘It is the same with God’s work. If we stretch the brothers beyond measure they will soon break. Sometimes it is necessary to come down to meet their needs.’ When he heard these words, the hunter regretted he had said anything, and he went away greatly edified by the old man. The brothers went home stronger."

So recreation was necessary even for austere Saint Anthony of the Desert and his fellow monks. That said, it is likely my spiritual bow is slack too often. Zeal is good, as are balance and moderation.

I almost didn’t post this in the forum - it just seemed everyone would know this - and then I thought there are visitors here, not just members, and perhaps some of them are lukewarm or have gotten sidetracked without being aware of it by the world - and this might do someone some good - so I am glad to hear that you found it helpful.

Well I’m glad you did post it. I read it, and thought it was very basic and all anyone really needs to know.🙂

I think its a good post; worth thinking about, and I am sure invaluable. Daily prayer is the key.

I found this on St Ignatius that I found interesting. Even St Ignatius got in, inspite of deliberately destroying his body (the temple of the Holy Spirit) with dreadful unhealthy fasting & trying to kill someone. However I guess you couldn’t call him lukewarm. I think that St Ignatius was doing these things out of Love for Our Lord and Our Lady, not so that he would secure his salvation.

it seems to me that God gives the graces for mortification and self-denial to give Him what He needs to save souls - but I don’t think that is always true - take a person who has developed many bad eating habits and is very overweight - self denial (taking the form of eating 1000 calories/day) and mortification of the sense of taste (taking only bread and water) can be benificial in retraining oneself and giving necessary distance away from cravings for unhealthy and high calorie foods.

Your are fruitful, if you are in the spirit and producing fruit of the spirit.

Gal 5:22-23
In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
