I’m excited and just had to share this–it seems like the Holy Spirit has really been driving my studies the last few weeks–and just when I ‘let go’ a bit, Holy Spirit takes hold!
I had a few explanations of the Eucharist hanging around but I didn’t really delve into them–for some reason it kind of took a backseat.
I was raised Seventh-day Adventist (4th generation), my father was a pastor over five SDA church’s shortly before I was born–and my mother is a VERY devout SDA.
With that, I was always raised that the Papal office was the anti-christ, the Catholic church followed a pagan example to institute Sunday as basically Satan’s day, and everything about the sanctuary doctrine and investigative judgment was nothing other than the “truth.”
Now, I married a Catholic in a Catholic church, our (now 2 year old) twins were baptized Catholic, and as they were getting older I figured I better learn more about Catholicism so we could decide whether to raise the kiddos Adventist or Catholic.
Of course, as I studied more and more, all the surrounding issues of Catholicism slowly dropped by the wayside, but I was still caught up on the Sabbath issue… understandably. Even after coming into the Church last weekend at Easter Vigil, I was on the path to surrender, but not total surrender, I still had “my way” of thinking.
Then yesterday, somehow the Sabbath issue vanished for me–I was reading an article here on Catholic Answers, that basically the Sabbath was recognized yet as the 7th day Sabbath of the Israelites, that had not been abolished (which I understood) and that the moral portion of the Sabbath, the fulfillment of the law was obtained within Sunday for the Christian… I still didn’t get it, but I kept studying and letting the Holy Spirit guide… Finally, it made sense to me that the CEREMONIAL portion of the Sabbath was that which was replaced, not the moral standpoint. When you truly separate the commandment in that manner it makes more sense.
Well, then I started reading on the Eucharist, and it all hit me like a BRICK WALL! I started seeing HOW MUCH of the Eucharist is threaded throughout the ENTIRE Bible from Genesis to the book of Revelation. And how much of the SDA sanctuary message and investigative judgment, was indeed replacing the Eucharist. And really how weak the SDA idea of communion was in comparison. Now I know some SDA’s have progressed their idea of communion a bit, but I’m talking fundamental historic Adventism here, not progressive.
Anyway, it ALL made sense, completely and totally… The Catholic Church is the ONLY ONE that truly understands the Eucharist to its fullest… and once you understand that ALL the rest makes sense–everything else seems to pale in comparison.
I’m still studying it, but I feel I have an unequivocal rock to stand on in the Catholic Church with the Eucharist and its thorough Scriptural support than I EVER did for the Sabbath, sanctuary message, etc. Similar to the Adventist Church, once you understand the sanctuary message the rest seems to fall into place to make sense (though it was very much directed to do so), so does the Eucharist make everything in the Catholic Church fall into place. Only in such an incredibly deeper level, with Scriptural support AND a “thus saith the Lord” which the Sabbath and sanctuary message do not have.
It seems my understanding of God is SO much better now too, it truly is amazing!
I strongly urge anyone, either looking at the Catholic Church or even cradle-Catholic’s who hold faith in the Eucharist to truly understand it through and through… The rest will make SO much more sense, and you will in turn, be able to defend your faith from those who wish to wrongly attack it!
That’s all, I’m done–I apologize for the long post, just had to get it off my chest!
