I have just been learning about the Latin mass. I think it would be interesting to go to one. My question is this. If it is an older version of the mass am I not to go to it now. Is it still a valid form of the mass? Or is it just a personal preference or style. I know the new mass is the one said now so if you go to the old one are you just being a traditionalist and not reforming, etc. Im just curious because i bet its beautiful.

The Extraordinary Form is absolutely a legitimate and valid form of the Holy Mass.

I would love to go to the Extraordinary Form but I always forget to ask my parents.

It is beautiful. Especially a solemn high Mass.

Go to a low one to start. It will be more silent than you’re used to. Don’t feel frustrated if you don’t know everything that’s going on, that’s how it should be! The church may have a missal or booklet for you to use to follow along, use it. If they don’t have one, here’s a website by the FSSP to help you follow along. It also has a video feed of some of their Masses. Watching some online may help you be prepared for seeing it in person!

Eh… IMO, it’s best to just jump in headfirst into a Missa Cantata or Solemn High

Mine was definitely not a hard, must-do recommendation, but it is generally easier to find a low Mass than the other two, I think.

this is the website i found to show me where my mass would be in my state.

It also asks you to sign up for it? I guess you just cant walk into one? You know its strange but I feel like im kinda an old soul and I would love to wear a veil at church and to kneel for the Eucharist. It all seems so reverent. Plus I just am old fashion type gal.

If you want to experience what the average Joe Catholic went to in the 1950’s and 60’s, the Low Mass is the way to go. Back in the day, that was the normative mass.

It’s a valid form of the Mass. Feel free to go. I go sometimes. Other times I go to the regular OF Mass. It’s nice to have options.
I’m not sure why you are concerned what others think of your Mass-going habits. It’s not their business and they are unlikely to pay attention to what you do.

Yeah, but I don’t think too many people are going for that.

The Missa Cantata/Solemn High are not the Low Mass with parts added - the Low Mass is a MC/SH with parts removed. You feel?

Your right Tis Bear…its really between God and I, Just what I feel called to is a bit different than most people in my church. But your right I shouldnt care what others think of me.

I would make sure that wherever you attend is in full communion with Rome but it is valid.

Are the SSPV and CMRI Masses really invalid? I can buy that they’re illicit, but invalid? How?

Communion with Rome and licitness/validity are 2 different things

Haha, usually it is people wondering if the Novus Ordo is valid 😂

Yes, the Extraordinary form is very legit.
