Hello,

I intend to do the The feast of Divine Mercy this year in another few weeks time, i have a question regarding the confession of sins. Should i confess only the current sins in my life or should i confess the other sins i have already confessed, like for example my last confession was a few weeks ago? I have not fallen to some of my old sins since then.

Thanks and God bless.

If one has no unconfessed mortal sins - one may choose to confess any venial sins that were since ones last confession or one may choose to confess also something that was already confessed and absolved as well. Such has no bearing on the Feast of Divine Mercy.

Thanks Bookcat.

Am i right in saying on the Feast of the Divine Mercy that all my sins get completely forgiven and all purgatory purification is cleared for all the sins up to that point in my life?

It has always been my understanding that one should not confess sins again if they’ve already been confessed and absolved. I think my approach would be to ask the Holy Spirit for light to see the deepest recesses of my heart and spend a good deal of time examining my conscience for things that might ordinarily escape my attention, with a special eye toward patterns. Like a spring cleaning for the soul 😉

Thanks for the help.

I am currently doing the first Saturdays and seeing as Good Friday is the first Friday before the first Saturday next month, i will be going to confession on Saturday, the question is should i go to confession again during that holy week before Divine Mercy Sunday, or will the First Saturday Confession suffice if i don’t fall into mortal sin? The reason i ask this is because i have read here, one of the requirements for the First Saturdays is go to confession with the intention to make reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mother Mary, so would going to confession for the Divine Mercy Feast intention conflict with the requirement for the First Saturday intention?

Might be more of a logistical conflict there, actually–none of the parishes around here are having confessions on Holy Saturday. Your priest is likely to be up to his eyeballs in alligators and you might not be able to do your first Saturday confession this month.

Thanks for the advice i didn’t consider that, its okay because i can do the First Saturday confession 8 days before or after the first Saturday of the month 🙂

So, sounds like one visit to confession on the Saturday before Divine Mercy Sunday will cover you on both fronts, right?

St. Faustina

699 On one occasion, I heard these words: My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.

796 The Lord told me to say this chaplet for nine days before the Feast of Mercy. It is to begin on Good Friday. By this novena, I will grant every possible grace to souls.

1059 Jesus is commanding me to make a novena before the Feast of Mercy, and today I am to begin it for the conversion of the whole world and for the recognition of The Divine Mercy…. so that every soul will praise My goodness. I desire trust from My creatures. Encourage souls to place great trust in My fathomless mercy. Let the weak, sinful souls have no fear to approach Me, for even if it had more sins that there are grains of sand in the world, all would be drowned in the immeasurable depths of My mercy.

Nop, I don’t wanna conflict with my first Saturday confession intention which is to go to confession for the intention of making reparation to Mother Marys’ heart for the attacks of the world on her, so i plan to go to confession a few days before the first Saturday, and then the week after go to confession again for the Divine Mercy Sunday Feast while doing the 9 day novena from Good Friday and the other requirement of Holy Communion.

I live in the city so i can access confession nearly every day 🙂
