The verse states that Jesus curses a fig tree when he was hungry and the fig tree did not have any figs because it wasn’t the season for them. The tree whithers. I believe this verse shows two things. 1 is that Jesus had a temper. He was godly in everyway and god has a temper also… Secondly is shows the dominion of Jesus over the forces of nature. When Jesus cursed something it whithered. He had control over it and it responded to his words.

This is the part that I do not understand. I don’t know about your “temper” answer, I’ll keep that one in mind as I continue to read. The thing about this passage is that Mark placed it before the scene in the temple (Jesus turning over the vendor’s tables). Then he followed it with the withering of the fig tree(Mark 11:20). What I have heard is: The fig tree is symbolic of Israel. Israel produced no fruit in response to Jesus call; so withered. That it was not the season for Israel to bear fruit may prophecy the later age when Israel will return to Him and bear much fruit.

Close, but notice there is still no fruit when the fig tree comes back to life, only “leaves” (Matt. 24:32). Jesus said: “May you never bear fruit again!” (Matt. 21:19) And so it won’t. Only those who “come out of her” (Rev. 18:4) will bear fruit. And its almost Springtime!What I have heard is: The fig tree is symbolic of Israel. The fig tree is Israel, as numerous Old Testament prophets illustrated. The fig trees are the good works that Israel was (or most often was not) doing in these illustrations.
Jesus is chastising Israel because she is not doing the things that God has asked of her. She appears to be alive (through the rituals in the Temple and religious practices), but she is dead. Hence, the fig tree has leaves but no fruit.
