The Filioque, really correct or not?

Stop demonizing me, i never said anything like that about the Catholic church. But i do blame Rome for the 1054 Schism, you are mean to put it all on cardinal Humbert. He caused the Schism, and Rome never did anything to heal the Schism, Rome only attempted to use Islamic invasion to blackmail Orthodox Church to accept the innovation of Rome’s universal jurisdiction and other innovations. Popes that came after Humbert acted just like Humbert, persisting in innovations and bullying the Orthodox bishops to accept Rome’s innovation or to go under Islamic rule, forgetting that Christ promised His Church martyrdom. This holy martyrdom, tradition-reduction Rome called a “punishment from God” for not accepting papal universal jurisdiction innovation or “development” as you name it.
At the end, Orthodox Church will prove again it’s Orthodoxy, it has already happened, slowly but surely Rome is admitting it innovated and that it will compromise and come back to pre-Schism positions. In 1995 Rome signed a document that affirms Orthodox position on Filioque and in 2016 in Chemsy Rome admitted that there was no papal universal Jurisdiction before 1054. We will make you give up on that Novus Ordo fiasco too. You will properly and traditionally celebrate Mass if you want to hang out with our cool epic looking Patriarchs.

I’m done feeding the troll.

@Profete you’re either a willfully ignorant religious fundamentalist, or a troll.

Don’t bother responding - I can’t even read what you write anymore because the arrogance, the ignorance, and the calumny are off the charts. You’re worse than a member of Westboro Baptist.

The last thing I will ever say to you:

Go learn the actual history of things. Stop attacking the Holy Roman Church. Repent.

And what about English Filioque? Or hundreds of other languages?

Heretical? The Creed written and approved by an Ecumenical Council, in its original language?

The Latin Church recites the Creed without the Filioque when it is said in Greek.

Hmmm so glad I got the opportunity to learn the truth about the matter.

Seems like much ado about nothing to me. The father and son are both eternal. The Godhead is a trinity of persons. They all are equal and yet different. The main point of the filioque was to combat Arianism, it didn’t redefine any understanding of the Father or Christ. Just seems like an argument in search of a point between the eastern and western churches.

I wonder how many millions and millions of uneducated Catholics have died by now thinking that Holy Spirit proceeds from two sources, Father and the Son. If we consider that before 20th century, 90% and more of People could not even read in most parts of the world.

I think I might try to toss my overly simplistic two cents into this debate. What if “proceeds” simply means chronologically? We came to know God the Father first, and then the Son, and then the Holy Spirit. I doubt anybody disputes this, am I right? Or does the debate over whether the Holy Spirit comes from still need to be resolved in order for full reunion to take place?

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but a priest suggested to me that one way of thinking about the relationship is: the Father and the Son with the Holy Spirit as the kiss between them.

Of course all three are distinct Persons making up one God, not trying to diminish the Holy Spirit in any way.

Things with more signatures have changed before.
Can you give one example of an official document signed by the four Patriarchs of Constantinople, of Alexandria and Egypt, of Antioch, and of Jerusalem and Palestine which has changed?

No. Jesus Himself says: John 15:26 “But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me.”
“The Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father”, does not sound heretical to me.

The Filioque defined outside of the profession of faith misleads and becomes a subject to one owns personal opinion or personal definition that misses the CCC definition.

The Filioque when professed from the Nicene Creed (Western Expression) never conflicts or contradicts with the full deposit of the Apostolic Faith.

The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son in One Spiration of LOVE.

The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son in divine revelation.

God the Father is personified distinctly in the Voice who speaks. God the Son is personified distinctly from the Father in the Logos (Word). God the Holy Spirit is personified distinctly from the Father and the Son, who proceeds God’s Love from the Father (Voice who speaks) and God the Son (Word) made present in divine revelation.

Example;

When God created creation. God the Father “Said” (Voice who speaks) Creates…, God the Son proceeded Logos or the Word of God created, God the Holy Spirit proceeded from the Voice and the Word and gave life to creation.

The Life which God gifts in creation proceeds from the Father (Voice) and the Son (Word).

God’s Love or Life cannot proceed into creation without the Word. When the Voice, the Word and the Breath (Holy Spirit) are distinct in presence, never separated, divided or confused in ONE GOD and no other.

Peace be with you

You can’t love what you don’t know. Only the Father knows the Son. Only the Son knows the Father. Only God can know God fully. Only God can love God fully. From God knowing God proceeds God Loving God. Knowing is necessary for loving.

What you tell us here is an attempt to know the Mystery of the Holy Trinity with our own limited minds. God Himself said that Holy Spirit proceeds only from the Father, so we don’t need this Augustine’s theory of love.

I find it strange that the Holy Spirit would not know the Father.

I find it strange that the Holy Spirit would not know the Father.
The Holy Spirit knows the Father knowing the Son and the Son knowing the Father. It’s just that the third Divine Person isn’t one of the knowers. He is their Love Not that He doesn’t know. He is God and knows what God knows. God knows the Father.
