The Final Coming

I’ve read some of and went to a small one-class study of Revelations at a religious retreat, but I have been confused. Is there really dragons and sins incarnate that happen over a period of several weeks or months or were those a metaphor. Also involving the Final Coming, I heard somewhere on the CAF that Pope Emeritus Benedict had said that the Final Coming wasn’t happening anytime soon. I tried googling it and got something about a Saint that had used clues and such to point out that the Pope AFTER Pope Benedict would be the last Pope. Cn anyone point me to the original source or any trace of him saying anything even closely resembling what I’ve been talking about?

Even if His Holiness B16 said something like that, it would not be an infallible statement. “The end” is not to be predicted, either way.

The list of Popes came from Saint Malachi, roughly 700 years ago. It, too, is not a teaching of the Church.

Don’t worry about the end, just keep your prayer-life and penance up to date. IMNAAHO

People study revelations for years. You can go back to the church fathers. This is a good cd on the subject. lighthousecatholicmedia.org/store/title/unlocking-the-book-of-revelation. Dr Barber also has a great book on this scripture by the same title.

When reading Revelation you have to keep in mind there is lots o symbolism and keep in mind who he was writing to. newadvent.org/cathen/01594b.htm

Whenever you do a Revelation search include the word Catholic. This helps parse out false teachings

I found this: In his Second Letter to the Thessalonians… [St. Paul] speaks of the negative incidents that must precede the final and conclusive event. We must not let ourselves be deceived, he says, to think that, according to chronological calculations, the day of the Lord is truly imminent: “On the question of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we beg you, brothers, not to be so easily agitated or terrified, whether by an oracular utterance, or rumor, or a letter alleged to be ours, into believing that the day of the Lord is here. Let no one seduce you, no matter how” (2: 1-3). The continuation of this text announces that before the Lord’s arrival there will be apostasy, and one well described as the “man of lawlessness”, “the son of perdition” (2: 3) must be revealed, who tradition would come to call the Antichrist. source Let me know if that helps.
