“Camping teaches that all churches have become apostate and thus must be abandoned. In the place of church he encourages personal Bible study and listening to his Family Radio broadcasts.”
Aside from the obvious absurdity of the belief itself, what Camping is essentially saying is “You must reject any form of institutional Christianity - except for the institution known as Family Radio.”

That’s according to Harold Camping, the founder of the Family Radio broadcasting network. I happened to hear this prediction while driving to work this morning.

Needless to say, I think it’s baloney. Just thought I’d share it.

I am just wondering how he, Calvin and the rest know there IS an [sic] Elect and who they are?
Calvin never claimed to know who the elect were, but that there are elect he no doubt concluded from Scripture verses such as this (not an exhaustive list):

Romans 11: though they were not yet born and had** done nothing either good or bad***, in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of his call, she was told, "The elder will serve the younger. As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So it depends not upon man’s will or exertion, but upon God’s mercy. For the scripture says to Pharaoh, “I have raised you up for the very purpose of showing my power in you, so that My name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then He has mercy upon whomever he wills, and He hardens the heart of whomever he wills. *

Ephesians 1: * He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.*

Mark 13:20: Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

Acts 13:48: * When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.*

It seems that the Family Radio guy is really reaching here. His prediction is based purely on his own bizarre calculations, and he has been wrong before.

Can someone show where there is an error in the Timeline of History:

ebiblefellowship.com/studies/numbers/Bible_Calendar.pdf ?

This site refutecamping.com//topics/the_biblical_calendar_of_history.php
that tries to refute Mr. Camping’s findings incorrectly asserts that Amram was the father of Moses.

So far nobody has been able to show that there is an error in the calendar.
How can anyone know whether there is an “error” or not? We are not given to know the Day of Judgement, so we have nothing to compare it with - we can’t possibly know when it is - it could be tonight, for all we know.

Nobody knows the hour or the day. I don’t care what your calendar or predictions reveal. It’s a waste of our time even looking at your links.

Prepare yourselves now. The end could be today.

Peace,
John

I’m convinced the end will come when and if the Raiders and Cowboys play each other in the Superbowl, two teams that are pure evil! 😃

It doesn’t matter when the world ends because we are all going to be dead within the next hundred years!!!

Sweet! So on May 20, 2011 when the world is about to end, I’m going to telephone everyone I know and tell them what I REALLY think of them. What could go wrong?

Sure thing. He states that on May 21, 1988, the “church age” ended and the “great tribulation” began. May 21, 1988 has long since passed, the church militant is still alive and well and no great tribulation is underway.

His reliance on numerology in the final section is another red flag.

I prefer Godzilla to Gamera 😃

The Bible CLEARLY states that no man knows the date.

Anyone that believes this kind of stuff is against the Bible and its teachings.

Exactly. I remember being at a wrecking yard trying to find a part for my old Dodge back in 1999 and listening to this evangelical guy and lady talking about how their church had a prayer meeting preparing for the end of the world in a week—Y2K. They were talking dead seriously as if this were really, totally a done deal, happening in a week, as if they were privy to this information excusively and conclusively. My grandpa and I were scratching our heads and wanting to crack up laughing…

Yeah, that Y2K thing really worked out…😛

The way God works is to shirk off human predictions and wisdom. God’s probably going to come at a time when humanity would never expect, on a Thursday on an off year like 2017 at 4:35pm 😃

I think people like Camping prove that our Lord has a magnificent sense of humor. 😃

On a personal note: I believe the world will come to an end on the day my jam sandwich lands jam-side-up on the kitchen floor.

I love what Snugglebugmom said. This man has already proved himself a false prophet. If he were anywhere but California, I don’t think this would make news even on a slow news day. As I saw it stated elsewhere, don’t worry about the world ending today, it’s already tomorrow in Australia.😃

I wonder if he will let me schedule an interview with him on May 22, 2011?

Hopefully he can tell me if my lottery ticket is the winner? 😃
