Most end-time prophecy is viewed as foretelling the events of “Armageddon”, but Jesus said of the fig tree, “When the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh.” So the prophecies given by Christ provided us with signs to let us know that something is coming but they were not necessarily a description of what is coming. It is possible that other end-time prophecies are not about Armageddon, but are to be fulfilled before Armageddon to let us know that Armageddon is coming.
The word “Armageddon” is being used synonymous with “end-times” or “tribulation” as meaning the time of the end. The word “antichrist” is only used in the Bible to describe false religion, but it is commonly used to refer to an evil political leader. It should be understood that these are two different things, and the word “antichrist” is being used here to refer to the political leader, not the false religion.
There are a number of prophecies that talk of a political leader who immerges in the end times and it is assumed that many of these prophecies are talking about one person who is commonly referred to as the “antichrist”. It is this political leader called the antichrist who is believed to cause the events of Armageddon to occur. However, the prophecies never actually say that all of the various passages are talking about the same person. The different prophecies could be describing several different leaders over a period of time before the end, and those who fulfill the prophecies might not be evil, but their fulfillment of prophecy before the end is merely giving us a sign to let us know that the end is coming.
Not to be redundant but it is important to understand that this is not about politics. This is a different view of prophecy that cannot be discussed without the mentioning of political names, but it is not intended to criticize or take sides in any political issue. This is not saying that Reagan was the antichrist; this is saying that there is no political antichrist. This is not saying that Reagan was evil; this is saying that Reagan’s fulfillment of prophecy is merely a ‘sign’ that tells us that Christ will return…perhaps in the not to distant future.
It is only in modern times that people commonly have three names…first, last and middle. For most of the past two thousand years the only way to derive 666 from a person’s name was to use numerology, so numerology became thoroughly ingrained in Christian thought as the way to find the number of the beast. There are different methods of numerology, and there is also a tendency for people to take liberties when trying to find 666. With Nero it is necessary to add his title to his name, but with other leaders 666 can be found if you make some other adjustment to their name. With all of the adjustments and different versions of numerology, there have been many leaders over the past two thousand years who have been identified as the antichrist. Actually the prophecy says “count” the number, and numerology involves addition but not the more simple process of counting. Now that people have three names it becomes possible to find 666 in a person’s name simply by counting. Ronald Reagan was the first, and so far only, person to lead the world’s most powerful nation who had three names with six characters in each name.
One of the heads of the beast will seem to die from a head wound; but he will survive. James Brady, who was Reagan’s press secretary, survived a bullet through the brain. By saying, “one of the heads”, this suggests that it is not the leader himself, but one of his top officials who survives after seeming to be dead. When James Brady was shot it was widely reported by the media that he was dead, but some time later it was learned that he had miraculously survived.
Reagan seemed to slip in and out of senility during the election campaign of 1984, although he did pull off a great performance in the third and final debate which led to his landslide victory. Reagan’s off again…on again senility is called Alzheimer’s and it means that Reagan had three and a half years to continue with his agenda before he was greatly diminished as a leader by this disease. With Alzheimer’s, Reagan still had some good days, but he had too many bad days to be able to complete the down-sizing of government that he genuinely believed in. The beast is not said to rule for three and a half years; the prophecy says that power is given to him to continue for three and a half years.
Reagan literally led into captivity, perhaps with Iran-Contra, but certainly with his policy towards Iran which encouraged hostage taking in Beirut. Reagan was led into captivity as Alzheimer’s has been compared to being in a dark dungeon. “He that shall lead into captivity, shall go into captivity.” This is yet another fit to the book of Revelation. Reagan fits the prophecy of the first beast of Revelation literally on several points. No person, kingdom or empire has ever even come close to fulfilling all of these descriptions of the first beast with any real clarity.
Reagan left office, which naturally proved to everyone that he was not the antichrist, but the coming of a political leader called the antichrist is only an interpretation of the prophecies no matter how universally accepted it is. It is only an interpretation or an assumption that one person must fulfill everything and it must be fulfilled during the end-times and not before. Even if Reagan was a decent man and even if Reagan did not fulfill all the various prophecies that are attributed to the alleged “antichrist”, this does not change the fact that Reagan fits the description of the first beast of Revelation in remarkable detail.
