How did the first disciples come to follow Jesus? I’m asking about Simon and Andrew in particular. I don’t understand how John 1:35-42 fits with the Mark 1:14-20.
I guess the events in John came later, but if anyone has (name removed by moderator)ut on how the gap between the two is to be understood (I mean, what were the Apostles-to-be up to, fishing after already meeting Jesus?) that’d be cool.
I checked four places with only one relevent comment.
The book “The Apostles” by Pope Benedict XVI, the New American Bible, and the parts where I checked in the New Jerome Bible Commentary do not comment on this matter.
The New International Version (protestant) Study Bible has a short note which says that the encounter in the synoptics is not historically the same incident as described in the gospel of John.
