The fonts still have water! Praise God!

This year our parish broke from the absurd draining-the-fonts-during-Lent practice. In the past there was a real disconnect–The priest would talk about how the Devil steps up his attacks during Lent, and yet the laity were forced into a sacramental fast–the very things that can aid in repelling evil. Thank God sense has returned.

Not sure why they would empty them through the entire Lenten season, but I sure do need it dry on Good Friday. I feel like I am in the desert after the Good Friday service, exiting silently out of Church and dip my hand into the empty and dried out font. Makes the Saturday Vigil even more thrilling! Finally, our thirst is quenched! 👍

I have noticed this too. I wonder if some document from the USCCB or Rome came down clarifying this?

A document WAS issued, about 6 YEARS ago!

What is really interesting is that, last year, I gave that document to the pastor at my previous parish. His response was “That’s just their opinion” and refused to fill the fonts.

My wife was back at that parish last Sunday, and the fonts were full.

They were also full at a parish near my work (where I attend noon Mass). They had been emptied in previous years.

So I am wondering if something was issued by Cardinal Maida on the subject.

That document must of finally crossed Cardinal Maida’s desk, and he “finally” got around to actually acting on it. Funny how the Church works often times…

I wouldn’t go that far. I IS most likely that it came across his desk. The Vatican didn’t exactly go out if it’s way to publish the dubium,

I’m just greatful that it has come across his desk and he did something about it.

The fonts are staying filled this year with the arrival of our new pastor and I am grateful.

I was tired of stopping by the parish each morning before Mass to re-fill the fonts during Lent – and having to go to another parish to have 5 gallon bottles of water blessed…

I just reach inside and get the small bit of moisture still at the bottom of the baptistry. It is a walk in one so there is a little bit of water at the very bottom. It gets peoples attention and is amusing to me to have to do this as it looks ridiculous.

God Bless

Ours did too! 🙂
Hmmm… must’ve been a recommended change since so many didn’t drain the water this year!

Good news! 👍

My parish still has ours filled but I went to our diocese cathedral Sunday and was sad to see that theirs was drained
