Someone told me that since today was the Fourth Sunday of Lent, (Laetare Sunday), the half-way point to Easter, altar flowers are acceptable today. However, I thought altar flowers were prohibited throughout Lent?

Also, when should a church cover up the statues during Lent? I think my church does it on the Fifth Sunday, but I definately know they’re covered up by Palm Sunday. Is there any specific Sunday or day they need to be covered up? Or is this totally optional?

Here is what Paschale Solemnitatis states:
On the fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare, and in solemnities and feasts, musical instruments may be played and the altar decorated with flowers. Rose colored vestments may be worn on this Sunday. [29]
  1. The practice of covering the crosses and images in the church may be observed, if the episcopal conference should so decide. The crosses are to be covered until the end of the celebration of the Lord’s passion on Good Friday. Images are to remain covered until the beginning of the Easter Vigil. [30]
I hope this helps.
