I am interested in the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate. I have gone to their website, and read the articles that they have about their way of life. Is there anything else that I should know about them before I write to them?

Ave Maria! as these Franciscans says. I don’t think you need to read anything more at the moment, as I’m sure they will answer any of your questions that you have for them.

May Our Lord continue to guide you in your discernment,
Viking

All I can say is that when I see the one of the sisters at the house in Bloomington, Indiana, I see pure joy in their eyes.

Their website mentions “the discipline”, what is it?

To use the discipline is to whip oneself as a form of mortification. I assume that the Franciscans of the Immaculate only do so without causing any bleeding, and under the direction of a competent spiritual director.

I find that very unusual… I know many communities and they’re the first I know who still use the discipline.
It is a good mortification though, for sisters who are able to do it.

We don’t know everyones ways of corporal mortification. Used in the right way, and by the right persons, it is a good spiritual exercise.
