The fulfilment is in our will?

Years ago I went on retraite and the priest told that in order to pray one of the things necesserily is to have faith.
Then a girl asked, what if I want to trust/have faith but I can’t because of the negative things that happened in my life?
His answer was: the will is the fulfilment.
He said that this is an interesting subject we should learn more about.
Does anyone know if I can read something about it or could anyone give more information about this subject?

Faith is will against anything, when you do not hear, you do not see, you do not feel, your thoughts are black and your body is numb…like the dark night of the soul as described by St. Theresa and St John of the Cross.

Faith is a complex issue because it is a gift from God but also a response from us. And our response is the result of several factors. We cannot force ourselves to believe anything! It must correspond to our conscience for a start. We cannot, for example, choose to believe in an evil God - unless we are evil perhaps. It must also correspond to our existing knowledge, experience of life, conduct and our deepest desires. Ultimately faith is the expression of our entire personality and we alone cast the deciding vote. That is where the will comes in…

Where there’s a will there’s a way - and the best way is through the example and teaching of Jesus:

In the will you have choice to believe or not to believe in something. Changing our words, changes our belief; and that is fulfillment. Once we change, ourselves, we begin to believe in what we change. The process only lasts as long as our stubborness; but if we can choose what is right in our own minds we can begin to believe. Faith starts as the smallest of all words, the smallest of all seeds, and that is GOD. From God all faith comes. If we can accept the word God within ourselves then we can accept langue of faith. And that language becomes us and that is fulfillment.
