I have been away from the Catholic faith for a while. I am disabled and not able to get to church. I recently heard about the full 15 decade Rosary. If I ever heard about it before in Catechism classes, I forgot. Can anybody tell me how you reflect on the Mysteries in the 15 decades? Do you go through 3 Mysteries and if so which ones? I am a very confused 50 year old who has been out of touch for a while. Please help if you can, and may God bless you.
Your friend in Christ,
Cyndi Nelson

Dear Cyndi,

Here’s a site that may help you. 59 Beads It will tell you which bead you’re on, and what prayers go with that bead. It has meditations also, and is easy to use. The rosary helps me get through my day.

Another site is the Vatican rosary page. The Holy Rosary.

The mysteries are:
Joyful (said on Monday and Saturday)
The Annunciation - The angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will conceive and bare the Son of God.
The Visitation - Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is to give birth to St John the Baptist.
The Nativity - Mary gives birth to Jesus.
The Presentation - Mary and Joseph present Jesus at the Temple according to the tradition of the Jews.
The Finding of Jesus in the Temple - At twelve years old our Lord was found by His parents teaching in the temple at Jerusalem, where people had gathered round Him marvelling at His wisdom.

Sorrowful (said on Tuesday and Friday)
The Agony in the Garden - Jesus suffers in the knowledge of his coming Passion. He asks the apostles to pray with him. They fall asleep.
The Scourging at the Pillar - Jesus is chained to a pillar and tortured, flogged, and ridiculed.
The Crowning with Thorns - Jesus is mocked and crowned with thorns.
The Carrying of the Cross - Jesus is forced to take up His cross and carry it up the hill of Calvary.
The Crucifixion - Jesus is nailed to His cross, and dies. His side is pierced and issues forth blood and water. His mother and the apostle John witness.

Glorious (said on Wednesday and Sunday)
The Resurrection - On the third day after His death on the Cross, Jesus is raised from the dead. He has defeated death.
The Ascention - Jesus ascends into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
The Decent of the Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit comes to Mary and the apostles and enters the apostles, filling them with zeal for their ministry.
The Assumption - Mary is assumed into heaven, body and soul.
The Coronation - Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven.

The Luminous (said on Thursday)
The Baptism in the Jordon - St John the Baptist baptizes Jesus in the river Jordon. This marks the start of Jesus’ public life.
The Wedding Feast at Cana - Jesus turns water into wine at the request of His mother, Mary.
The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God - Jesus proclaims the good news of the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Transfiguration - Jesus took Peter and the sons of Zebidee, James and John, and went up a mountain. Jesus became transformed so that His face shone like the sun.
The Institution of the Eucharist - Jesus took bread, broke it, and changed it into His Body, so that whoever eats of it may have eternal life.

You may also want to request visits from a priest. Contact the Bishop’s office of your diocese (number should be in the directory) and simply ask. Confession and the Eucharist are available to you too.

Welcome back! I wish you all the best in your search for God. I will be praying for you.

God bless,

call your nearest Catholic parish and ask the priest to visit you, explaining our situation, so you may confess and receive communion. He may be able to find someone to drive you to church and certainly for someone to bring you communion regularly. You are part of the parish whether or not you can make it to Mass. Welcome home.

Oh thank you, thank you. I really appreciate the 2 replies I had. I will get in touch with the nearest Priest and see about getting back to the Eucharist. I miss that very much. Again, thank you and may God bless you.

There is a book called the Scriptural Rosary. It takes a little bit longer to pray it this way because you recite a bible verse before each Hail Mary, but I’m easily distracted so it keeps me on track and it is an excellent way to learn scripture.

If you are not able to go to mass, call your church and explain your situation. My mom was never baptized and she was fighting a terminal illness. She wanted to be baptized into the Catholic church, but had been married (and divorced a couple of times) and was unable to attend RCIA classes, so a priest came to her home and baptised her. Me and another priest “traded off” bringing her communion while she was alive. She finally died in October a had a beautiful funeral mass. The whole time she was alive the closest she got to church was her own home. Even if you can’t attend mass at church you have a right to have it brought to you at home.

It should be noted here that the Luminous mysteries are optional and though very good, do not fit in with the original purpose of the Rosary which was called our Lady’s Psalter(due to the Psalms being 150 in number and thus the 15 mysteries and 150 Ave’s. The Luminous mysteries make for very good meditation, but not in place of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Cyndi… WELCOME to CAF! :hug1:

Here is an online Rosary site that may be helpful to you. Just follow the links, and you can re-learn about the Mystery’s of the Rosary. Pope John Paul II added 5 new ones. They are called the “Luminous” Mystery’s (for a grand total of 20 Mystery’s). But, I believe the new Mystery’s are optional, to pray. Not required, if you choose to only pray 15.

Hope this helps! God bless.
