The fundamental of religion and science(How does a rational person manage both?)

stephen hawking brought up a pretty good point when he said :

“There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority [imposed dogma, faith], [as opposed to] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works”

ps “personally I think there’s a “hehehehehe” at the end of that quote as he smiled to the camera”

I have been thinking: science has reform the church’s teaching again and again, it seems science is in fact doing a better job at explaining nature? Is there going to be a point that science will overthrow the fundamentals of Christianity ?

how does one manage to “get the best of both world” (I am asking as I am an engineering student)? it seem to commit to one would deny oneself of the other , what is the function of “faith” and the function of “science” according to the church’s teaching? to me clearly science has overthrew lots of beliefs that we(Christians) have our “faith” on.

How do I have faith but still be rational - to use reason and observation to answer questions that I have about the world?
 
Read The Science Before Science, A Guide to Thinking in the 21st Century, by Anthony Rizzi. He’s the founder and director of the Institute for Applied Physics. He is famous for solving an 80-year-old problem posed by Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.

Different areas of knowledge. “Science” can’t (or shouldn’t try to) tell us how we should act in matters of morality and ethics. Presumably Hawking is not talking about the science of Philosophy. There’s more than a bit of imposed dogma and faith in the sciences these days, as well.

Like many specialists, Hawking gets into trouble when he strays outside his area of expertise. His new book makes some pretty out-there philosophical claims (including an anti-realist stance) even after he proclaims that philosophy is dead.

I don’t know if it was a Hong Kong exclusive or what , but after his trip in Hong Kong he had a book came out “why are we here” or it could have just been the text version of the dialog in this speech in Hong Kong. I can’t help but notice there were some anti-Christian agenda in what he said( not atheistic…but anti-Christianity and some degree of anti-theistic) and that made me kind of upset consider those were needless jokes , metaphors or examples that he was making which mock Christianity.

but I’m sure the function of faith and the bible acts more than just ethics and moral guide right? so how does faith apply outside of these area(ethics and moral) or should it be applied in those area in the bible?
