During the psalm, the cantor was singing in a verse about a forest and a boar laying it waste. Well, it came out as “the boar laying its waste”. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not as funny but as I was preparing myself for Mass yesterday I was reading all the readings, psalms, Gospel and had to do a double take on that one :D.

That’s worse than when one of our lectors proclaimed that we were destined for immorality. It’s amazing what one missing letter can do!

Of course, there is also that letter of St. Paul to the Filipinos (instead of Philipians). That happened a couple of times in my old parish in Austin, one such time was on Palm Sunday. Two of us were readers that evening. I was the narrator and the reader proclaimed the first and second readings.

When he blurted out, “A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Filipinos”, tt kind of hurt the solemnity of the occasion, especially for the cantor and me. We had just sung a Gregorian like respnosiorial pslam which was beautiful, but, sober. She and I just looked at each other and I was trying to keep a straight face since it went south from there. The reader than decided to recite the Gospel acclamation, but, the organist cut him off the pass.

There was another time in the same parish when the reader (we used to introduce the folks who were reading, serving at the altar and serving as EMHCs and the priest–glad that’s gone) and when it came time to introduce me, she gave me and the priest the same last name. 😊 Even though our last names sounded similar, it was hard for him to keep a straight face as we were processing to the hymn Attende Domine. It was the same reader, by the way, for both instances.

I almost sang the same thing when I was practicing the psalm at my home, hah. The combination of the words, “lays” and “it” makes it easy to pronounce it “lays its”. I’m sure your cantor wasn’t the only one in the nation who probably misread it 😃

We had a new lector start to read the gospel instead of his own reading…the other lector bounced out of the chair so fast to correct him, it was tearfully comical…but when the pastor got up there to proclaim the gospel…all was well.:amen:

A few years ago, we had a lector who was always very proper and reverent. He read quite well and spoke with a clear voice. At one Mass, he got up to read the first reading. Instead of hearing the Old Testament, we heard from the Apostle Paul. He had read the second reading instead.

After the Cantor sang the Psalm, the lector returned to the ambo (sp?). He calmly looked up and said “The last shall be first and the first shall be last.” Then he read the first reading.

I’ll match that with a reader reciting Psalm 132, but when he got to the verse “Your descendants forever shall sit upon your throne,” he messed it up.

I’ll leave it to your imaginations how.

I don’t get it. What did he say?

JPUSC…

😛 Add the letter H to the word sit.

 Thought everyone called it the “thrown”

Oh! I don’t know how the lector could have messed that one up unless that’s a word he frequently uses, lol.

Now. now, be charitable! 😉

Actually, it’s a very easy mistake to make when one word starts with “sh” and one starts with “s.” Otherwise, “She sells sea shells on the sea shore” wouldn’t be a tongue twister!

haha!

That’s almost the same as our deacon instead of concluding the mass with “Go in Peace”, he said…Go and “P…I…S…S…” should have seen the looks on the grandma’s in the front pews…they were all checking their hearing aides!!!. Oh, well, it was a rather lengthy mass, maybe the deacon needed to use the facilities
