The future if "gay marriage" becomes widely accepted - just imagine

Already we see things like wedding cake toppers that you can order with two brides or two grooms. At the library the other day I saw a book on “gay etiquette” that had things like how to word a gay wedding invitation. It also gave advice what to do with those backward members of the family who object to the “marriage.”

What if we had a time machine and could go into the future - what would it look like, what would we hear?

Imagine . . .

Parent Jones: “So, Smith, gotten your daughter married off yet, ha ha?”
Parent Smith: “I guess Sally just hasn’t met the right person yet . . .”
Jones: “Is she looking for a male or a female?”

and other scenarios like this - how confusing it already is, how confusing could it potentially get?

You do realize that gay people are a minority in society and always will be? Yes, people are more open about it, but the fact remains that LGBT people remain a single figure % in terms of the overall population. So making silly statements like this isn’t going to do anyone any favour.

it is so bad already “gay marriage” is only one thing under many many many living in mortal sins situations that are accepted

If you want an answer to that, just look at Europe where all that (and more) is legal.

European countries with open, relaxed sexual attitudes and education, along with liberal policies in law, often have better standards of living and much more equality than even the US.

What about the woman who married herself?

“Previous generations of social experimenters have caused unimaginable misery for millions of people. None of them have ever been held accountable."

I’m more concerned about the future prospect of people being denied jobs or promotions or even services for their stance on gay marriage. Manny Pacquiao, world famous Boxer and practicing Catholic was recently banned from a mall in LA for opposing same-sex marriage, if this is done to such high profile figures, what about the commoner?

I’m sure one day people will be getting married to their siblings, parents, children, and pets, first in twos, then in threes and fours. And finally we’ll discover we’re all married to each other. That sounds about right, doesn’t it?

I think it will be like contraception, divorce and re-marriage and divorce and re-marriage for trivial reasons and serial parenthood without the benefit of marriage already is, not to mention more seriously wrong “rights” like abortion and assisted suicide. It’s an unacceptable thing that to some extent you have to realize is widely accepted. I think plural marriage will not be far behind, as societal moral taboos have even less reason to forbid that.

The big question is how much unjust persecution is going to be incurred by those who refuse to be complicit in these things. It is getting so that it is not enough to accept that these things are legal, but that one is required to cooperate in making them happen as the price of having a professional license or being in business.

This is not a topic that is brought up much any more, as daughters don’t have to be kept until they’re married off, and even when they’re married, they don’t necessarily leave home. Sometimes when a daughter marries, you don’t lose her. You gain a son-in-law and his drum set in your basement.

Maybe we could all get an old copy of Miss Manners Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior and learn not to ask questions that are none of our business.

people here in Australia are really pushing the government here in australia as well for it. they find out where a member of government is and go and protest near them to get them to change there mind.

the only way this can be stoped is if we add this to our rosary. with the other things we ask for we also must ask for same sex marrage to stay illegal and for the people pushing for it to really see how bad and eveil it is.

DONT FORGET YOU CAN ASK FOR AS MANY INTENTIONS IN YOUR ROSARY. I DO IT FOR:

-THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
-THE MASS CONVERSION OF SINNERS
-THE SALVATION OF SOULS
-THE SAVING OF BABIES FROM ABORTION
-BATISM OF BABIES ABORTED
-FOR THE HELP OF PRIEST, NUNS AND THE RELIGOUS IN THERE DAILY WORK AND TO BRING SOULS CLOSER AND BACK TO GOD
-FOR MY PARENTS, BROTHER AND GRAND MOTHER SALVATION AND PENCES AS WELL AS FOR ME
-FOR EASING OF NATURE Disaster and for word peace.

According to the Human Development Index, which does metrics on standards of living and quality of life, the U.S. scores higher than most Euro countries with comparatively more liberal policies, such as Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Belgium, Luxembourg, the U.K. etc… the only two that are ahead of us are Norway and Netherlands. I’m really not sure that two qualifies as “often”.

I don’t think people will ever become 100% “politically correct” in their approach to homosexuality. First, because it is objectively disordered, and the perception of that truth will continue to influence everyone’s attitudes in some complicated way. Second, because homosexual attraction will presumably always remain something only a minority of people experience in a significant way. And third, because I expect people are likely to actually get less touchy about gender neutrality and such as these new cultural values become more widely accepted.

Exactly.

The things that bother the OP are here, and unless gays themselves decide there is value in recognizing the obvious difference between homosexual and heterosexual relationships, I don’t see this going away. They are going to insist on using the same language for all relationships until homosexuals themselves want a distinction made, no matter who does or does not like it. Get used to that, regardless of whether another law ever changes or not.

There have been societies over the course of human history that have recognized gay relationships and been very loose in their sexual taboos in other respects, as well. Those eras were relatively short-lived as human history goes. Still, call me a coward but I’m not in in hurry to go through the kind of societal upheaval that tend to bring all the taboos back. When the pendulumm swings back, it will sweep a great deal with it. But again, that will happen when it will happen, and regardless of who does or doesn’t like it.

Catholics have managed to get used to it when other denominations allowed divorce and re-marriage, other denominations ordained women, other denominations opened their marriage ceremonies to homosexual unions. That’s not the same as accepting it as right, but so far no one’s head has blown up over the degree to which the morality of the rest of the world is far out of step with the tradition of Christianity.

Actually, I worry just as much about the injustices that were accepted back when the penduluum had swung far in the other direction, when not only were homosexual actions found unacceptable, but anyone who was oriented that way was open game to violence both emotional and physical. Those are not days to wish for, either. 😦

Although, as Jesus would say, what does it profit if we gain the whole world and lose our souls?

I actually agree with mab23 that this is kind of a silly thread in a way. But sometimes you never know, even the goofy ideas can get people thinking. 🤷

For better and for worse, we live in times when goofy ideas tend not to be suppressed. There will never be a time when every idea is accepted, let alone when every truth is accepted. Rather, I think each age has truths that they have difficulty with, truths that the devil especially concentrates on twisting or obscuring. Our task is to play the cards we were dealt in our own times, I suppose. 🤷

What baffles me, is why is marriage so important to homosexuals, when heterosexual totally are devaluing it?

Here in Canada, same sex marriage is widely accepted, and…life goes on. 😃
