Do you have a link to an SDA site to confirm this? Not doubting you, but it is good to hear from the horse’s mouth.

Hi JonNC,

You can go online to the Ellen G. White Estate and do a search on “sunday law” and pages of links will pop up. But here is one quote of hers…most of her other quotes are just a variation on this theme:

***The Threefold Union of Religion, July 1
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Revelation 16:13, 14.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation [the United States] will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near.

Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience…

Papists, Protestants, and worldling will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium.

When our nation [the United States] shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism." Maranatha, Page 190***

The majority of SDAs believe this. Sadly I once did. Gladly I no longer do.

God bless all!!!

Dismal stuff isn’t it?

I wonder how one can crack the mentality that such end-times addiction creates. Folk in its grasp seem to measure the worth of religion by the amount of writing (speculation really) produced by a movement, denomination. or church. I’ve had numerous conversations with SDAs and JWs where the focus of their thinking is what we (Catholics) teach about end times and the interpretation of the Apocalypse of John. I can’t recall more than a handful of such conversations moving to a productive examination of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hi JonNC,

If you google “EGW Estate” it will take you to a link of Ellen G. White’s writings. There you can do a search on “Sunday Law” and page after page of quotes will appear. They are all pretty much variations on a theme…but the following quote leaves no doubt that she predicted it would happen. Most SDAs believe it will. Sadly I did. Gladly I no longer do.

Here is one quote by Ellen Gould White on the coming sunday law:

**"The same masterful mind that plotted against the faithful in ages past is still seeking to rid the earth of those who fear God and obey His law. Satan will excite indignation against the humble minority who conscientiously refuse to accept popular customs and traditions. Men of position and reputation will join with the lawless and the vile to take counsel against the people of God. Wealth, genius, education, will combine to cover them with contempt. Persecuting rulers, ministers, and church members will conspire against them. With voice and pen, by boasts, threats, and ridicule, they will seek to overthrow their faith. By false representations and angry appeals they will stir up the passions of the people. Not having a “Thus saith the Scriptures” to bring against the advocates of the Bible Sabbath, they will resort to oppressive enactments to supply the lack. To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law. Those who fear God cannot accept an institution that violates a precept of the Decalogue. On this battlefield comes the last great conflict of the controversy between truth and error. And we are not left in doubt as to the issue. Now, as in the days of Mordecai, the Lord will vindicate His truth and His people. {Testimony Treasures vol.2 150.1}

An Indication That the End Is Near

Vansensei:
Or the Branch Davidians, a Seventh-Day Adventist offshoot cult. They still exist, believe it or not.
Or perhaps another SDA offshoot group such as documented by National Geographic…
…Warning: the following video is pretty disgusting.

I remember when my gf told me this, I was like, are you out of your mind, you guys are delusional. This type of law will never be on the Catholic church to do list. We have better things to do.

Hi JonNC,

No problem and you are more than welcome!

The two quotes above, from “Maranatha” and “Testimony Treasures” are from the original published books of Ellen G. White titled, “The Great Controversy” and “Testimonies to the Church”, respectively.

The SDA publishing house over the years, in what I can only guess to be an attempt to publish and sell more books, cherry-picked and rearranged Mrs. White’s original books under many new titles.

So if you google and go to the Ellen G. White Estate, and do a search on “sunday law”, you will get the same quotes (and a couple others) showing up many many times in many many different books.

The most horrifying thing that I became aware of just about a year ago, is that the SDAs have published and sell a Bible titled, “The Clear Word”. It contains all throughout the scriptures, the addition of Ellen G. White’s writings and thoughts in the actual Bible verses. So anyone reading this “bible” will seamlessly be reading the Ellen White Story, not the Bible Story.

It is read and used by many, if not the majority, of SDAs as “The Bible”. The claim in defense that it is a “devotional”, and that is the reason the author gave for writing it. But it is not like any devotional or study Bible I’ve ever seen. There are no, notes as to EGW’s opinions, or such. It just reads like the Bible straight through, but with EGW added all throughout the scriptures. SDAs believe that Ellen G. White’s writings are as inspired as the Bible itself.

Linked to here in SDA Fundamental Belief 18, it is stated that Mrs. White’s “writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth”. Take note of the use of the word authoritative. That seems to rule out any claim to Sola Scirptura, does it not? But this perhaps is another topic for another thread.

Mrs. White’s book, “The Great Controversy” is one of the most anti-Catholic works of fiction, you could ever come across. Actually, their contempt for the rest of protestantism is close to equal to that of Catholicism. That whole “sunday thing”.

God bless all!!!

I read to my gf the link that you sent me about the SDA abortion stance she was shocked that they had such a stance. Whenever we read and it states that god will be with those who keep the commandments she tells me write down, bc it talks about the sabbath. Well when I read to her the SDA stance on abortion she has had a difference approach in relation to the commandments.
