The Gap Theory, Don’t Know Anything About It

It’s interesting that there is such a large body of interpretation that the “God of the gaps” is about the Creation.

I had always heard the “gap” as being “The Great Parenthesis” of Dispensationalism. That is, there must be a gap between Daniel’s first 69 “weeks” and his 70th “week.” It was the Dispy way of explaining why they believe certain prophecies only apply to the end of time! (Here’s a quick Lutheran example. Well, it’s quicker than mine, anyway.)

BTW, am I the only one who has heard it as an End-time assertion, rather than a Beginning-time one?

Why doesn’t the Church know if the Creation story or evolution are factual?
My view is because it isn’t important. The Bible is not a science textbook and was never meant to be one. To quote Galileo (who, (apparently) was quoting Cardinal Baronius) “The Bible teaches us how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go”.
Both evolution and 144 hour creationism can be used to point to God, albeit in different ways.

I love that quote!

Oops, I mis-linked. Here is the Lutheran explanation of the End-Times gap-theory.

I’m really the only one who has ever heard it as a future claim? Huh. 🧐
