Is anyone a fan of the Gidget movies - there are 3 I think.
Tonight I watched all 3. Sandra Dee is my favorite Gidget. James Darren was so handsome and had a beautiful voice. I wonder why he didn’t become a bigger star.
Gidget Goes Hawaiian is my favorite of the 3.
I am watching Gidget Goes to Rome now. This Gidget is my least favorite. Deborah Walley in the second one was ok

I think there was a Gidget series on tv also.
 
I loved James Darren’s character in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

I didn’t see him in that movie. There was a movie on the other night about a famous drummer played by Sal Mineo and James Darren played his friend and a member of his band. I think he was a talented actor and singer.
 
I’m a fan! I’ve seen 'em all!

I grew up a block from the shore, and when I was a kid I spent 365 days a year at the beach.

I always liked those old corny Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello films, too.🙂

When I was a kid they used to play those kinds of films, along with every chintzy Elvis movie ever made, right after Saturday morning cartoons.

I’ve always maintained that was a deciding factor in warping my young mind.👍
 
I saw one once on TV. I think it was the Hawaiian one. I’m a fan of retro/vintage stuff and I like old movies, and this one caught my attention 'cause it was about a girl about my age. 🙂

You’re missing a bit here. There were two TV movies: “Gidget Grows Up,” starring Karen Valentine in 1969 and “Gidget Gets Married” starring Monie Ellis in 1972. The latter one was expanded into a short-lived TV series.
 
Love love love the main 3 movies, with plain ol’ “Gidget” being my favorite. From the way they dress to the way they talk, the houses and cars, love it all. My mom got me hooked on them when I was a child, and we used to watch them together and make a party out of it.
 
Sally Fields portrayed Gidget in a tv series.I always enjoyed watching that show.Actually never was a real fan of the movies,something about Sandra Dee always bugged me:shrug:

Lucky you living so close to the beach! I liked the Frankie Avalon/Annwtte Funicelli movies too, but James Darren more good looking than Frankie Avalon in my opinion. I grew up in the midwest so I thought how lucky they were to spend their time at the beach.

I liked Carl Reiner and Peggy Cass too when they were the parents.

Never saw those 2.
 
There was also a 1980’s series called The New Gidget.

Gidget had grown up, married, and was taking care of her teen age niece who was a lot like she was.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m sure there were plenty of other influential factors.
