the ear gauge does not proove sociopathy. What it shows is that he was around people who thought it was cool, and so he thought it was cool. These people also probably thought religion was not cool, so he did as well.

He gets to Gitmo, and he sees these Muslim men praying and saying that being Muslim is cool. This is now the group that he “runs” with. Suddenly, he wants to be cool again. So he converts.
Somehow I doubt a prison guard converted to the religion of his prisoners in order to be “cool”.

Not cool in that sense. HE saw people who loved their faith and he had never seen that before. It was a new thing for him. Suddenly, there was a new world that he had never seen, and he wanted to learn about it.

The fact is that there were no theological reasons given. It says that he had never been around people of faith and now he was and he converted. Just because a thirsty man drinks water does not mean that I need some, too.

… and Lived To Tell It.

Oh wait. Sorry. It’s converting from Islam to Christianity that incurs the death penalty, not the other way around. My bad.

Did you come to Christ because of theological reasons? I don’t think that’s how it works, not for Christians or Muslims.

You don’t know him. You know virtually nothing about him and his conversion. Be careful. Don’t let your objections to Islam cloud your mind.

This man is much better off than he was before. It’s just too bad that he couldn’t find any good witnesses in his own society.

No, but I stay with him because of them. There is no other option since I know the Truth.

And those who posted this know nothing about him, either. This is just propaganda.

My issues with Islam are not as much the issue here. It is more of an issue with the whole “innocent Muslims” in prison and the idea that just because one person converted I should give it any thought at all.

I am not willing to say that he is better off. He may be, he may not be. I do agree that it is ashame that he could not find good witnesses in his own society.

No doubt. But many Christian conversions are just like his story.

1st: Nobody is asking you to convert. I’m just asking you to take this at face value. It’s a good lesson for us. 2nd: Are you contesting whether or not these men were innocent and tortured? Why the quotes around “innocent Muslims”?

Although Islam is deficient in comparison to Christianity, believing and having faith in God through Islam is infinitely better than athiesm, relativism, and materialism which are the dominant “religions” of our own society. I think it’s a matter of fact that he is better off now.

True enough.

  1. Not directly. There are Muslims on here who are here to convert us. There are non-Catholics doing the same thing. And there are Catholics doing the same thing.
  2. Being tortured does not change if they were guilty of being involved in terrorist acts. Nor is it connected with being an armed combatant against the US. And there are those who say that 100% of the Muslims there are innocent of everything. There are some who deny that Muslims were involved in 9/11

Yes, that is true. However, if your faith in Islam causes you to sin, such as being a suicide bomber, you are not better off.

Until they are given a trial, we’ll never know if they’re innocent or not.

Re this guy’s conversion, in the absence of any real information from the guard himself, we’ll never know his reasons for converting. Most, probably all of the posts above are pure speculation. I suspect the authors of the article thought it was newsworthy because of the rich irony. (Plus there’s the “oddness” factor: “he converted to what?”).

(BTW, I didn’t think he looked weird in his picture; on the contrary, I thought he looked very calm and poised, even cool).

True. Although even then, many end up with the wrong verdict, but at least it will be said one way or another.

True. I know that mine are. 👍

That hole in his ear bothers me. Other than that, he looks like a normal, well-adjusted human.

MashaAllah , despite the hostile propaganda against Islam, truth seekers are becoming Muslims . Surely God is the best planner.
You’ll have to forgive me for thinking that’s not great planning. If islam wants to convert all the 9/11 conspiracy nutters though, you guys can have the whole lot of em.

Honestly, I don’t see this as a braggable conversion in the slightest. The very fact that the guy had enough mental issues to be conspiracy theorist in this vein shows me that someone so unstable should never have been assigned to prison guard duty in the first place.

Don’t fill a post with hogwash if you don’t know what you’re talking about. Ear guages aren’t allowed in the Army. This was done AFTER his conversion.

Islam **does not **allow their believers to adjust their body parts,… it is something they call “haram” - forbidden.

No tattoos, no hair coloring other than natural henna, no piercings or mutilation / adjustment of body parts.

So, I’m not quite sure about this fellow… 🤷

Regardless, he was in the army… he did NOT have these guages at that time.

Further, by reg, he MAY not have had the nazi symbols on his arms until after his conversion. It depends on the severity of the commander. Army regs leave some wiggle room for determination of what constitutes “hate group” markings that must be removed. The earings, however, are non-negotiable… those are a post conversion alteration.

Maybe he’s a cafeteria-muslim? A Mohammud Pelosi?

Re-check that post, I said that the ear gauge does not prove sociopathy. That is not hogwash. I say that it does show a level of influence that others can have over him. I stand by that. 100%.

Point out the hogwash in that post.

By the way, I did not know that about Army regs, but I am not shocked. He could have done it before hand and pulled out the thingy.

Everyone is a product, to some extent, of their environment.

But guidance is from God. Whether it comes through a messenger preaching by means of direct revelation, or through answered prayers, through a prisoner in a cell, or through an honest glance through a book, it’s from God.

Why is anyone fighting over this story? The man saw a faithfulness in the Muslims that he admired and obviously wanted for himself but for whatever reason did not see in Christianity, so he converted to Islam. I have heard similar stories from people who have converted to/from any number of religions. It doesn’t really “prove” anything, though I guess it does make an edifying story for those whose religion gains another follower, and really, why shouldn’t it? I do not agree with this man’s decision, but I think some of the talk that’s gone on in this thread is way off base.

Might I remind you all (Christians) that we have much more inspiring stories of our own that we don’t need to have turned into propaganda articles for our faith in order to remember and draw strength from them? Even among our little virtual community here, I have consistently been inspired by the wonderful stories of Sam_777, Cathopologist, Ag_not, and others who have come to know Christ under some very trying circumstances. God bless them all. Instead of decrying the journey of faith of another man just because we don’t agree with where it has ended, we can remember the many, many other cases where people have been led to Christ through the Spirit of God and be edified by them just as Muslims are edified by this man’s story. Our history is blessed by the stories of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, King Ezana of Axum, martyr Liban Ibrahim Hasan of Somalia, and millions of others. Let’s remember them and not be sucked into fighting over exactly how wrong another faith is. If we are secure in our own faith, that security stands with or without stories like the one this thread was made to publicize. 👍

Dont think the beard is allowed either, in the military. So he musta converted, left the military, grew the beard and jacked up his ear like that.

BTW, Im pretty ignorant of this religion he became a part of, other than the **** about the virgins and all that you hear people joke about. But, if I was a firm believer that when I died God was going to give me a bunch of virgins…I wouldnt care where I was, prison, the desert…I’m getting a bunch of virgins who cares of course I’m going to sit around and pray and read my qoran all day.

I mean, if you have to live this life before you got your dispersement of virgins wouldnt you be a little uptight all the time, grow a beard, maybe blow something up if you are radical enough. Anything to get outta here early.
