Hello!
Does anyone out there know why the Gloria is generally excluded from the daily Mass and then why it would be used on occasion? I never seem to be able to catch a pattern or reason for its use or non-use.

Thanks!

I believe it is used on a weekday that is a Solemnity or Feast - Deacons? help us out here

Yes, the Gloria is reserved for Solemnities and Feasts. And the Credo is reserved exclsuviely for Solemnities.

The pattern? The Church simply wishes to mark a more solemn celebration by adding more stuff to it. That’s all.

DominvsVobiscvm,

Thanks for the information. Is it possible to tell me if you know if last Tuesday, Novemebr 9th was an occasion for the Gloria to be used in daily Mass because it was at my church - I think it was the day that the Church celebrated the bascillica of the Lateran in Rome.

Thanks.

Yes, November 9th was in fact the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica so all of the prayers for a feast day (including the Gloria) would be proper.

Thanks - I did manage to find out that it was a fest day on Nov 9th.

Thanks for posting it, too!
