There is a poll going on at the Mormon Apologetics board about whether God the Father had a Father. So far 35 say yes, 16 say no, and 1 says “I don’t know.” There is a lot of speculation on this board about whether Mormons generally believe that God the Father had a Father. The Mormons who come here denying that doctrine are probably unrepresentative of Mormon opinion on the matter. That’s a shame. I would have hoped most Mormons would have progressed beyond that belief by now. Based on the poll at the Mormon Apologetics board, I would have to say most Mormons believe God had a Father no matter what the protesters here might acknowledge.

According to Sethian theology he was created by Sophia.
I don’t know about that, but if any Mormon tries to tell you Mormons don’t believe that God the Father had a Father you can tell them that that is not what most Mormons think.

From what I’ve seen, most mormons aren’t really sure what mormon belief is, especially since it’s constantly changing. One mormon in particular told me he didn’t believe completely in all the doctrines, but really likes the culture and family atmosphere and can deal with the weird beliefs to have that.

Usually when I find a Mormon, Muslim, or any other religious member who says things like, “Well I don’t believe that!”, my first response is, “That’s wonderful - what did the founders of your faith believe?”
