My wife and I met up with the kids in Sicily last year. We were in Palermo and visited the Teatro Massimo. It was on the steps that Michael’s daughter was killed. The place was pretty quiet so I sat on the steps with my daughter in my arms and recreated the scene.

People look at the photo and go ‘Whaaa?’

One of the things I dislike about 3 is that By then, Pacino’s acting has gone downhill.
Part 3 just wasn’t all that good, it’s more of a guilty pleasure for me.
(Ok it’s definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, Sophia Coppola’s terrible performance and all) 😂

However Pacino’s performance was just fine with what he was given, was his performance in part 3 on par with parts 1 & 2 or Dog Day Afternoon or Serpico?
Absolutely not, but that was Pacino at the top of his game, and IMHO very few actors have ever even performed at that level (Pacino has struggled to hit that level again).
In later years I find his acting caricature-ish. Like in Donnie Brasco.
A little caricature-ish perhaps, but I quite liked Donnie Brasco and his performance in it.

If you want to talk caricature-ish, Carlitos Way must be mentioned, yet another guilty pleasure of mine.

Devils Advocate is yet another guilty pleasure of mine, no one can ham it up like Pacino lol.

However I wish I could erase this from my memory:

I’m sorry to anybody that clicked play 😂
I truly believe Mr Pacino was off his meds, or perhaps he was on medication, when he agreed to this.

I liked all 3 Godfather movies - the first one is my favorite. I just wish they had cast
someone other than Diane Keaton as Kay. I thought the rest of the casting was good.

The Godfather 3

In my opinion it is the part that gives meaning to the trilogy: the mafia boss can believe he has the world at his feet but in the end he loses all his loved ones and dies in solitude with his dog.

Al Pacino is forced to change his acting. It may be that in 20 years a man changes expressiveness, but changing in this way is too much.

Many hate Sofia, but for me she was not a bad actress, she was probably not the right actress for that part, in fact she was chosen at the last moment after Wynona Rider was gone.

There are a couple of things that make no sense By the time we get to part 3.

In 3, Andy Garcia is the son of Sonny and Connie’s bridesmaid. He’s apparently the only male mafia heir of the Corleone family. Anthony, Michael’s son is an opera singer, not interested in the family business.

But, in part 1, after Marlon Brando’s character comes home from the hospital after being shot a little boy reads him a letter, “Love your grandson Frank.”

Who’s Frank?
Michael and Fredo aren’t married yet. Connie doesn’t have any children yet, because when Sonny is killed she appears to be pregnant with her first child.

He’s got to be Sonny’s kid.

Also, there is a scene where Mamma Corleone picks up the phone and it’s Connie upset wanting to talk to Santino. She’s got a little boy who’s crying. Whose son is that one?

They are all children of Santino, who had several children from his wife Sandra (in addition to Vincent from his lover Lucy Mancini, who was born after the death of his father).

Then why the need for Andy Garcia to carry on in Godfather 3? 🤔

I read The Godfather book many years ago. This is one of those times that I prefer the film.

I did not like the book either. Even worse was a book written notby The Godfather author, but someone else. Supposed to be a prequel.

It was awful.

I have the trilogy on Blu-ray. Will have to rewatch it soon so I can join in this discussion. 🙂

I was both intrigued and appalled by The Godfather movies, and unfortunately it affected my view of Italian-Americans for a little while because I didn’t know many in real life and so I stereotyped them based on these movies, which was wrong of me to do, but I was young and didn’t know any better.

The scene that bothered me most was when Michael’s Italian young, innocent and beautiful bride got killed when she was learning to drive and her car blew up when the killers were trying to kill Michael.

I was also bothered by the seemingly callous way that Michael and others could go to church for a baptism and sit calmly and piously in the pew while they know their associates are out murdering opponents at the same moment. I thought it was a sacrilege and made my skin crawl.

The writers were very good indeed.
