My mom would do that to my dad when he had a back aches. It was a coin wrapped in fabric. then you light it and immediately cover it with a cup. That puts out the flame. I guess it’s a combination of heat and pressure that relieves pain.

My mom would get upset at the sick Fredo scene, because according to her, it wasn’t a treatment for babies.

Michael Phelps is a user of this therapy. I was surprised to learn it was a therapy that originated in ancient China. 🤔

I got the first DVD release of the Godfather trilogy when it was released in October of 2001. (I’m not 100% sure, but I think this was a birthday present to myself, since I’m an October baby.) It was eerie to watch the opening scenes of Godfather 3 and see the World Trade Center towers, which of course had just been destroyed by terrorists a month before.

Another favorite scene: When Michael saves his father from the second attempt on his life in the hospital, with the help of Enzo the baker.
Looks like Enzo “repaid the service” (of Vito’s help with the immigration issues) many times over.

Adrian, I mean Connie, isn’t involved in the family business.
In part 2, she starts being Michael’s caretaker (after the split with Kay) and starts to look out for him, so that by part 3 it turns her character darker.

We never did either. I sometimes put a little bit depending on who is eating it. Some people are so used to jar sauce they would miss the sweet.
Who has ever sliced garlic as thin as they did in Goodfellas? I should try it.

I love this thread…

My husband, upon seeing the garlic being sliced that way: “how come you never cut the garlic that way for your sauce? “ He was joking, but like you, I am thinking it might be an interesting “experiment.”

@F_Marturana, was sauce referred to as gravy at your house? It only became “sauce” when my kids came along. My mom’s family referred to it as gravy, a New York-New Jersey thing perhaps?

My parents spoke Italian. “Sugo” if the sauce had meat in it like meatballs and sausage etc. It was “sauce” if it was plain tomato, garlic and basil.

But I‘ve heard “gravy” for the sauce with the meat many times.

I think in Italy sauce cooked with meat is “ragù “ not to be confused with the product sold here.

Here’s a traditional ragù recipe. It’s in Italian, but the visuals are pretty clear. My mom made something similar for holidays.

In part 2 she ends up his caretaker.

We first see her wanting Michael’s blessing to marry Troy Donohue.

She wants to move back after Mamma Corleone died.

Here is a deleted scene that shows that Vito and Michael weren’t so close.

Michael dd not respect Vito. He turns away from him. He didn’t go to him and talk with him “as a son”. Meanwhile the guy in the hospital thinks Vito has divine influence.

I don’t like because of one of its main effects which is making members of the mafia look like heroes, honorable men etc. This is actually messed up.

Sauce became gravy when you added meatballs or sausage. Without meat it was simply sauce.

Yep, that’s why they should have kept the deleted scenes in, they added so much to the story. I have to laugh, Michael who doesn’t respect his father Vito for who he was, turns around and becomes his father, as did his father Vito who became the hated Don Ciccio.
There is SO much truth about human nature running through this trilogy.

Let’s talk about one of the actual morally uplifting and inspiring mob movies out there: A Bronx Tale. Anyone else a fan?
[Door locks]…”Now you’s can’t leave.”

[Fisticuffs ensue. Italians throw rude bikers out of neighborhood bar]

He has a few good songs, “Ohio” being the one that if you’re from my part of USA, it’s like the regional anthem. I like “Sugar Mountain” and “Cinnamon Girl”, and “After the Gold Rush” was okay. But a lot of his stuff is just meh to me. “Hey Hey My My” being a prime example, and all that “man needs a maid” stuff.

In film making, they always shoot much more than they put in the final version.

I tend to think deleted scenes if important to the story would be included.

I wonder, though, if mamma Corleone was from Corleone or a different Sicilian town. They don’t really say.

Also, I’d like to see maybe a prequel of little Vito when he first came to New York alone.

Poor little guy.

Michael dd not respect Vito.
I don’t agree with that. I think he respected his parents although when younger he did not want the same life for himself.

Incidentally, the deleted scenes may have been deleted because they did not want to portray Michael as being disrespectful. He would still discuss things with his father even when he took over as Godfather. Even when his father asked him if he had done this or that, he respectfully told him he had it all under control.
