Is it true that the upcoming Movie “The Golden Compass” is aimed at the Catholic Church? I have recieved many e-mails, but I am still not sure. 🤷

Be aware and tell your friends about a movie coming out in December titled the “Golden Compass”. They will market it to unsuspecting children and parents as a fairy tale movie. The movie has been made by an atheist. In the movie the characters kill Godso then everyone can do what they want. Tell your friends not to go to the movie! It stars Nicole Kidman. Tell your friends!!!

I heard they kill God in the movie and then everyone is free to go and do what they want. It is made by an Atheist who hates C.S. Lewis and is Narnia film.

Its do out in DECEMBER.( Here is a review of the movie): Based on author Philip Pullman’s novel, ‘The Golden Compass’ is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who’s been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well. The cast includes Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, and Ian McShane

Good on you for spreading the message. I can’t believe I bought this book and had to read it for book club. I can’t wait to toss it in my fireplace. And I will NOT go see the movie either.

I can’t understand why Nicole Kidman is in this movie. It has been said that she is Catholic.

This is the most inane idea I think I’ve ever heard. Killing God? That doesn’t make sense on any level. That idea would even sound absurd to most of the atheists I know.

I was alerted to the content of Philip Pullman’s trilogy by an email containing the Snopes.com information warning of the atheist views of this author. I was astounded at the extreme language in the content on Snopes and thought I’d do a little research, especially since I have a 12-yr old son that loves this type of fantasy-based writing.

I have since read all sorts of things about the content of each book of the trilogy and even read some things about Philip Pullman, including a few quotes from him. He is certainly atheist. He does not believe in God or organized religion. However, whether he realizes it or not - he does recognize the need for moral behavior. I doubt that he is an immoral person and condones anarchy as some believe atheists are likely to.

The content of the trilogy can be taken either as simple fiction/fantasy with purely entertainment value or otherwise as an expression of Mr. Pullman’s views against organized religion. Both would be correct, depending upon the reader’s maturity and depth in which the content is viewed. For example, a person (atheist or not) who loves fantasy writing will likely love this series, whereas a Catholic clergyman would likely regard its content as heresy. Each reader will have his/her own opinion.

The immature readers that view this content in depth, and really take it to heart, are the people that are truly in danger of being influenced by the author’s views. Mr. Pullman makes little effort to disguise his views of God and biblical teachings. His trilogy amounts to a battle against God and Christian theology, with the end result being defeat over God and the church, after which the inhabitants will essentially be governed by their consciences and whether something “feels” right or wrong. That sounds like a lovely outcome, but it’s a fantasy/fiction story. It would never work in the real world…and that’s probably why Mr. Pullman wrote a fantasy book.

I won’t launch into a longer commentary on my opinions on atheism, etc., but I would like to say something further to the parents reading this… I am a Christian. My 12-yr old son loves to read fantasy novels and watch movies of the same sort. He would love to read this trilogy, and will probably beg to see the movie in December. However, I will not allow him to see it. I know him full well, and he is gullible enough to be influenced by the author’s views - without even realizing it. Since I can’t make him mature any faster, I can do my best to limit influences on him that I deem unfit or above his head in the meantime. I recommend that you do the same if your child is likely to absorb the overall themes in fictional movies without being able to separate them from realities.

Dangerous content? S Moore
e here is a review I got off Yahoo moie reviews:

We have several threads on this but i’m to see how it’s anti-christian.

WHOA –

My red-flags are going up – but not because this might be an atheist film – but your determination to keep posting in order for people not to watch it.

I find that stranger than a film coming out of Hollywood of an atheist theme. I find it suspect.

Why don’t you tell us why you are REALLY so down on it?

The book series is one of the most anti-Catholic (anti-Christian in general, but specifically anti-Catholic) series I have ever read. God is portrayed as an evil tyrant who they succesfully kill. Children are encouraged to have sex. A priest is given the forgivness to kill before he murders because of an ‘indulgence’. There are homosexual angels and the afterlife is a dark and dreary place, until finally the ‘good guys’ (one of whom is Satan) comes along and frees the souls locked there, allowing them to become wind and flow through the world as one with nature again.

All of this is wrapped in a pretty package of ‘fantasy’. The first book (first two probably) were pretty harmless seeming, but the third lays on thick the anti-Catholic bias of the author. I imagine the first film might be this way, ‘harmless’, but we can show our disproval of this slander this film is flinging at our mother the Church by not going to go see it.

Teen4 Christ, God is killed in this movie. The soul of a person is animal like and is on the outside of our body.Happiness is projected as being free to do whatever one wants!

Its the best I could do. I went to yahoo and put in “Goden Compass” it went to the yahool movie review sight. There I took
a review(cut n paste) and inserted it onto my CAF reply. This person had read the trilliogy and was aware of the author and his background. The author seemed very fair to me; he said some nice things about the trillogy author; but said it wouldnt be good for young children i.e., the immature.

Thanks for the info, another movie not to give my money too, if whats been said is true.
