I find it stunning, literally stunning, and not to be somehow mean or elitist; but I am stunned by Protestants who can roll out quote after quote from scripture, decide when Jesus is speaking metaphorically, and then tell us that Catholicism contradicts scripture. In the meantime they ignore the quite clear meaning of Christ’s own words on the Eucharist, on the power to forgive sins, on the primacy of Peter and on the need to hear the Church. It’s actually mindboggling. The fog must be thick indeed.

I find it equally amassing that you can not read for yourself. You accept the Magistrate on on interpretation of key verses that can not allow you any other conclusion. All that, in the fact that we can indicate scripture that fall out of your dogma. Then you quote the Magistrate to validate it. All while you point to grace instead of the gift of grace, the Holy Spirit. In your terminology on this tread it appears that grace is your stand in for the gift of grace the Holy Spirit. Jesus ether gave himself for works and the law or He didnt. You would rather institute a new set of laws to replace the laws that did not bring life in the OT. You do understand that none of the patriarchs got to heaven aside of Jesus dont you. Jesus takes them to the Father also in grace. Their laws and services did not save them. It was but a shadow of what was to come. It truly amasses me that you people dont understand the Gospel. Your salvation comes from the Eucharist and baptism. ceremonies no different than the OT ceremonies that the Hebrews preformed, sad indeed. You are in every case the continuance of the old law. You have merely replace the Jewish law with your NT law and ceremonies. Thats not what Jeremiah says, I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God. That dont sound like the LORD will bring a new set of laws. The NT laws you follow. Your similarity to the OT Jews, even excluding all others and makes your church the only path to salvation. Was that part of Gods plan? I know you will quote mat 16:18 but is their an OT verse that supports your thought about the catholic churches only way to salvation. Jeremiah says that new will not be like the old. I see your church as being the very same as the old.

Its rather hard to put “the primacy of Peter and on the need to hear the Church” in to the above verse, says the LORD.

I’m not a Biblical scholar. I don’t think I have to be. Why I cannot sit here and tell you how to properly interpret every OT prophecy or revelation in light of its NT fulfillment, the Church Fathers have done this and I have read many of their commentaries.

But what I do understand, is that if you believe in Jesus, you have to accept what HE said explicitly. “What so ever you say is bound on Earth is bound in Heaven” is pretty clear. “Who ever hears you, hears me” is pretty clear. “Who so ever sins you forgive are forgiven, who so ever you hold bound is held bound” is pretty clear. “Unless you eat my body…you have no life within you, for my flesh is real food” is pretty clear.

No the Sacraments are not just symbols. They are means to Grace.

Do you imagine that the Church, all the Apostles, the early martyrs, and doctors were in error, FOR 1500 years, until Luther (who was quite degenerate in his private life) and Henry VIII, who was quite publically degenerate, discovered the truth?

I brought it to him…and told him that this could be his model… A “Good” Thief… Shortly after my son’s death, a wonderful man read his “story” on line…and contacted me… He had started a Prison Ministry decades ago… named The Saint Dismas Prison Ministry. They give out Medals of St.Dismas to the men and boys and medals of St.Mary Magdalen to the women and girls. They also have Cursillo weekends at the Prisons and the response of the inmates can only be called INCREDIBLE!!!

My son spoke to thousands of youngsters before he died on the dangers of gangs, drugs and pre-marital sex. He was the guest speaker at a Boys and Girls Club…where the speaker before him was a PLANNED PARENTHOOD agent… My son passed around FETAL MODELS… for the youngsters to hold and touch and acknowledge that these were not models of “blobs” but of real live babies… He exposed the lie that condoms “protect” and that sex equates with “love”… His story has been published and lives have been changed for the better…and I believe that the prayer to St.Dismas brought about these miraculous results…because he is in HEAVEN WITH JESUS…

James, I clicked on the link on your post about saving 1,000 souls from Purgatory… Every November, I would take advantage of the Cemetery at the top of my road. It is almost hidden in a tree laden cul de sac that connects to another street. From Nov.1 to Nov.8 there are special indulgences for the souls in purgatory if you visit a cemetery or grave and say certain prayers and go to Holy Communion and Confession within a two week window. My son, Thomas worried about me sitting in my car at the locked gates of this old cemetery in a “rough” neighborhood…(he knew it well) So he would go with me…and be my “lookout”… while praying the Rosary for the Holy Souls. Many times he would tell me to “cut the lights” or “duck”… (drive-bys were not unusual) Thomas was born in Scotland… and the day he died, aged 17, was Nov.16th. Feast of St.Margaret of Scotland (Patroness of those who die young) and St.Gertrude (Patron of the Holy Souls in Purgatory) who gave us the beautiful prayer…which I prayed years before he died and continue to pray for all those others who die and are being purified
It is also the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, the Order which St.Faustina belonged to and Thomas prayed the chaplet…

Thanks for sharing that Granny. I am happy to hear that you are one of those Catholics who sees it as a charitable obligation to take advantage of the opportunity to perform full plenary indulgences during the Octave of all Souls. November is a wonderful month to really help those in purgatory and I too go to the cemetery where my wife is buried to pray for her and others. I have resolved that there shall be no one interned within a 100 feet of her cemetery plot who shall remain in purgatory. It just would not be proper to have anyone “on the block” so to speak not up there helping her celebrate her eternity. And so I visit every week and do a rosary too for her and for any who might benefit - its been almost 2 years now.

I am sorry to hear that you have lost such a young son. I know its not a thing one ever gets over and I imagine that God teaches us through feelings of loss and separation after the death of a loved one just how unimaginably terrible it must be to lose one’s salvation and be seperated from God. I see a lot of life here as a teaching metaphor to prepare us for the hereafter. Fortunately, it sounds like your son was in a high state of grace in service to God and was bearing much fruit. Given that by now you have probably said so many masses and devoted so much spiritual devotionals to indulgences its probably safe to assume he is soaring up high in the upper choirs of angels and lights up like a Christmas tree when you send him your prayer intentions.

I give my late wife a daily flower from saying St. Therese’s chaplet on top of everything else that I and her many friends give her for prayer. Given that nothing perishes in heaven - not even prayer - I imagine by now she is swimming is sea of eternal spiritual roses and scheming on a way to “one up” me before I get around to joining her.

How wonderful (full of wonder) it is to be a Catholic!!!
Death does not separate us from our loved ones… I even have picnics with my grandchildren at Tom’s Grave… His photo is on the headstone… with Our Lady of Guadalupe on one side and the Divine Mercy on the other… How I picked his cemetery and his spot was dictated by my Catholic Faith… Miracles have happened … which I won’t go into…but how awesome to share this same Faith with others whose love goes beyond the grave… I especially love the story of the man who asked St.Pio if his wife was in Heaven…and St.Pio answered “yes”… then gave him a number of Rosaries to pray and Masses to offer up for his wife’s soul… The man was shocked and asked why since she was in Heaven already…St.Pio answered that she was in Heaven BECAUSE of all the Masses and Rosaries that he WOULD be offering for her soul… So God takes into account ALL THOSE PRAYERS, especially Masses and Rosaries and Chaplets that WILL be offered for the poor soul… and they are counted at the soul’s JUDGMENT!!! WOW!!! Sadly, as a result of the Reformation (deformation) our non-Catholic brothers and sisters have been denied this joy and this good work…but those Catholics who pray as Our Lady of Fatima requested…for all those IN NEED OF YOUR MERCY… I’m sure their loved ones will be covered with indulgences and prayers…
